First it was Zach Randolph who spoke up and said that the Memphis Grizzlies were better after Rudy Gay was traded to the Toronto Raptors. Now Randolph’s teammate, and Grizzlies’ defensive specialist, Tony Allen, has come out and said the same. “Well, I just think we turned into the team that we were two years ago, without the guy that we traded.”Allen went on.“Obviously, we’ve made some additions, but for the most part we’re the same team from that 2010-11 season. Just Grit and Grind, in and out basketball. Everybody playing hard, playing together.” The season (2010-11) that Allen eludes to was one in which the Grizzlies lost Rudy Gay for the season, pulled off the 8 seed in the west and upset the heavily favored San Antonio Spurs in the first round. Gay’s role was taken over by fellow defensive specialist, Shane Battier. A guy who has a similar game to the newly added Tayshaun Prince. One of the pieces sent to Memphis in lieu of Rudy Gay. Prince and Batter share likenesses in that they’re both terrific on the ball defenders, both very long (Prince more so than Battier) and both can knock down the trey with consistency. Tayshaun also delivers big-game experience to a Memphis team, who hopes of making a splash in the incredibly competitive western conference. The biggest question with Gay’s game was the unbelievably poor shooting percentage he was carrying around this season. Gay was shooting under 41% before being traded to Toronto, and  shooting a horrible .379% since landing north of the border. As where, Tayshaun Prince gives the Grizzlies a stable wing player, who requires less touches and commands far less cash. Gay, who makes an on average salary of $16,460,538 Million during the course of his current contract, just never lived up to the deal Memphis gave him.
