It has been quite the rollercoaster of a season for Philadelphia’s 76ers, one which included a stint at the top of ESPN’s power rankings, as well as a slump that had many speculating as to whether the team would even be able to push into the postseason. Despite this inconsistency, the team was able to clinch their second consecutive playoff birth this week, and head into the NBA’s second season as assumed first round fodder for one of the East’s elite. While any playoff appearance is an exciting accomplishment, seeing the Sixers have to struggle their way into a somewhat shallow East’s last seed is disappointing, especially after such a strong start to the season elevated expectations. With the Sixers sitting on the East’s eighth seed and a matchup with the battle-tested Bulls looming, it leaves one to wonder whether the team might have been better off slipping into the lottery and allowing themselves at least an outside shot of acquiring franchise-changing center Anthony Davis.   ...

Philadelphia 76ers clinch playoff berth for second-straight season

Thanks to a 105-87 win over the Brooklyn New Jersey Nets on Monday night, the Philadelphia 76ers have clinched a playoff berth for the fourth time in the last five seasons. At one point the Sixers looked like the favorite to win the Atlantic Division after running out to a 20-9 schedule padded start in the strike-shortened 66 game season. However, the Sixers’ offensive woes and...

Turner, Meeks combine to lead 76ers to 90-85 win over Bucks

MILWAUKEE -- What only a week ago was supposed to be a critical game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night was instead a rather meaningless one. With the 76ers having already nudged out the Bucks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, neither team had much at stake in the Bradley Center. But despite using patched-up...

Bucks host Philadelphia in home finale

This could have been a crucial game in determining which team would earn the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Instead, the Philadelphia 76ers are preparing for their second consecutive postseason while the Milwaukee Bucks are getting ready for another long summer going into their matchup Wednesday night. Philadelphia (34-30) had a three-game lead over the Bucks (31...

Evan Turner said Sixers wanted Bulls because Heat are tougher for them

The first-round playoff series between the Bulls and 76ers got much more exciting thanks to some comments from Evan Turner. The Sixers guard was asked last weekend what it would mean to play the Bulls in the playoffs, and he answered candidly. “It means we’re dodging the tougher team. That’s what I think,” Turner told the Delaware County Daily Times. “I think we’ll be...

Evan Turner really wants the Chicago Bulls in NBA Playoffs

Philadelphia 76ers guard and 2010 #2 overall pick Evan Turner is looking forward to a potential  match-up against his hometown Chicago Bulls. After Turner scored a career high 29 points on the Milwaukee Bucks last night, I asked Turner about the potential first round playoff match-up with the Bulls. “We probably match-up better with them, they’re by far the best team in the...

2010 #2 pick Evan Turner progresses in 2nd year with Sixers

When the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Evan Turner #2 overall out of Ohio State in 2010, they thought they were selecting a franchise cornerstone. Finishing his college basketball career with the Buckeyes, he was as highly decorated as a player can be- sweeping all the national individual awards. His rookie year did anything but live up to the hype however. Turner really struggled...

Pistons 108, 76ers 86

Ben Gordon scored 26 points, including eight 3-pointers, to help the Detroit Pistons rout the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers 108-86 Thursday night in the season finale. Philadelphia entered the game with a mathematical chance at the Eastern Conference's seventh seed, but didn't make much of an effort. Elton Brand, Andre Iguodala, Thaddeus Young and Lou Williams all sat...

76ers-Pistons Preview

Despite a largely rough final two months of the season, the Philadelphia 76ers have played well down the stretch. The visiting 76ers hope to build even more momentum heading into the playoffs with a fifth consecutive victory in Thursday night's regular-season finale against the Detroit Pistons. Philadelphia (35-30) had a four-game lead in the Atlantic Division on Feb. 13, but...

Iggy goes pop!

In what could be a significant blow to the hopes and dreams of fantasy owners, Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand will not play the final two games of the season. Elton will be rested and Iggy because he’s banged up but mostly because he needs the rest, as well. I was DM’ing on Twitter the other day with a reader and the issue of when to end H2H playoffs came up. Simply put, I compare...
