The Spurs star scotched speculation that he might refuse to train yesterday by showing up as planned at the club’s Enfield HQ. However Bale – who was the subject of a death threat from an anonymous caller to the club’s training ground on Sunday – still wants to join Real Madrid. And Tottenham director Sir Keith Mills admits the momentum behind his potential £105m transfer could now be impossible to stop. Mills said: “We very much want Bale to stay.” But when pressed he added: “If a player is desperate to leave it’s very difficult to force him to stay. “We’ve seen it at other clubs. Even if he has a contract you can’t force somebody to play for you.” Spurs have insisted all summer that Bale is not for sale but chairman Daniel Levy has been forced to the negotiating table by the Welshman’s desire to go. Talks are set to begin today between Levy and Real president Florentino Perez in Miami and the Spanish giants are confident a deal will be done. Losing Bale would be a massive blow to Spurs but Mills insists the future looks bright for the club who are trying to strengthen their squad for a Champions League push. Tottenham have broken their transfer record twice this summer to sign £17m midfielder Paulinho and £26m striker Roberto Soldado. Mills 63 said: “This summer we are investing in a great squad and we hope that provides us with Champions League football next year and we start to win trophies FA Cups. That’s what Tottenham need.
