Heartbreak in Dallas

A trip to Dallas to take on the defending champs gave the Portland Trail Blazers a great chance to get some road momentum going, but it turned out to be yet another heart breaker.

BOXSCORE | My POST GAME NOTES
Dallas 97, Portland 94
When: 8:30 PM ET, Saturday, February 11, 2012
Where: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas
Officials: #47 Bennie Adams, #43 Dan Crawford, #77 Karl Lane
Attendance: 20457

Here then is my Love’ Em & Hate’ Em for the Mavs matchup on Saturday night.

Portland showed plenty of fight in coming from behind multiple times in this one, but they just couldn’t quite get over the hump. Dallas won 97-94 in double overtime in this hard fought battle.

Love’ Em

1. Effort from the Team

The TrailBlazers had plenty of chances to give up in this one, but they simply kept fighting. Dallas had a double digit second half lead, but the Blazers fought all the way back.

If this team keeps playing as hard as they did in this one, the Blazers are going to pick up some road wins.

2. LaMarcus Aldridge

LaMarcus Aldridge continues to shine on a nightly basis. Aldridge racked up 33 points and 12 boards in this one. He played 52 minutes and only had one turnover.

Most NBA fans don’t know it yet, but Aldridge has become one of the best post players in the league. He has a well-rounded game, and he comes up big when the team needs him most.

Hate’ Em

1. Terrible Shooting from the Backcourt

I was going to try to single out someone here, but Raymond Felton and Jamal Crawford were both terrible in this one. Felton was 4 for 17 from the floor, while Crawford was 6 for 23 from the floor.

It’s going to be very hard to win games when the two guards that play the most minutes finish a combined 10 of 40 from the field.

2. Too Much One on One Basketball

Nate McMillan has said several times this year that the Blazers offensive troubles generally begin when they get outside the offense. Portland had just 11 assists on 36 made shots from the floor.

Clearly, the Blazers decided to play far too much one-on-one basketball in this one rather than running the offense.

Portland gets a couple days off to rest up before hosting the lowly Washington Wizards on Tuesday night.
