Two Months from Start of Season, Dallas Mavericks Must Focus on Winning Games, Nothing Else

As much change as the Dallas Mavericks have gone through this offseason, the coaches and players must be focused on one task at hand, and that is winning games. It is easy for probably any Maverick to get distracted right now with all the roster moves and what not. It’s hard to be focused on the simple idea of playing basketball when you don’t know what the future holds. Former Mav, now Boston Celtic, guard Jason Terry perhaps was a victim of this last year. He knew that his wonderful run in Dallas would most likely be over after the end of this past season, and it arguably altered his play in a negative fashion. All four major acquisitions for the Mavericks are playing on one-year contracts. New point guard Darren Collison is in the last year of his rookie contract. The other three of O.J. Mayo, center Chris Kaman, and forward Elton Brand all signed one-year contracts. All four are essentially playing to stay with the Mavs beyond this year, or be let go elsewhere. Not to say that t...
