NBA teams, not unlike other professional sports teams, make changes when the franchise is in a slump. The Toronto Raptors are no different in that respect. Wednesday found now-former general manager Bryan Colangelo abruptly resigning from the team. Interestingly, he will retain some type of role with the franchise and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. Colangelo lost that position in May after the Raptors yet again missed the NBA playoffs – for the fifth consecutive season. Meanwhile, Toronto obtained Masai Ujiri from the Denver Nuggets, putting him in presumably as the GM of the team. The move isn’t surprising, seing that the Raptors haven’t had any real success, despite the fact that he led the team to a division title in 2007. The beginning of the end came shortly thereafter. Colangelo even realized a modicum of success while with the Phoenix Suns, earning an NBA Executive of the Year award in 2005. The Raptors certainly cannot do any worse with Ujiri at the helm (I have my eye...

Bryan Colangelo is stepping down as president of the Toronto Raptors, just weeks after taking a reassigned position with the team. The Raptors announced Wednesday that Colangelo will remain as a consultant with the team and with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. Colangelo joined the Raptors in February 2006 as president and general manager. He was not extended as GM after...

Colangelo steps down as president of Raptors

TORONTO (AP) -- Bryan Colangelo abruptly stepped down from his role as president of the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, a move that was unexpected even after he'd lost his position as general manager to Masai Ujiri. "I have concluded that stepping away from my position is the best course of action for the organization...

Raptors Decline Option On John Lucas III

The Toronto Raptors have declined the contract option on John Lucas III on Friday, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Lucas was a favorite of Dwane Casey and a good locker room guy as the Raptors' third point guard. Lucas averaged 5.3 points, 1.7 assists and 1.0 rebounds per game.

Raptors Could Leave Draft Without Player For First Time In 19-Year History

The Toronto Raptors do not have many bargaining chips, but are approaching the draft as though they have a pick even though they do not. “You never know what’s going to come your way,” Masai Ujiri said. “I think obviously you’ve studied the draft all year and you have the guys you like, the guys you don’t like, and how you rank them. “And you go into it preparing like...

Report: Raptors Decline Option On John Lucas III

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Toronto Raptors have surprisingly declined the team option for 2013-14 on John Lucas III’s contract. The sixth-year point guard averaged 5.3 points, 1.7 assists and 1 rebound in 13.1 minutes per game this season for Toronto as a backup point guard. He was originally intended to be the third-string point guard, but ended up playing a bigger...

The 12 greatest No. 1 NBA Draft picks

From Midwest Sports Fan. Time will tell if the player Gilbert and the Cavs select on Thursday—whether Nerlens Noel, Alex Len, Ben McLemore, or someone else—was worth all the fuss. Sometimes the team with the first selection ends up with Joe Smith or Michael Olowokandi or Andrea Bargnani (who, really, should be better than he has been). But on plenty of other occasions the top...
