Point Guard Need Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports I have seen many people say what they think the Jazz need this offseason. So here is mine. I think our key needs are in order-SF, PF, SG, PG, and C. I have PG as our fourth most important because Trey Burke is already here. I have seen some fans who want to trade him, or want us draft a PG again. I like Trey. Is he a superstar? No. Is he a great defender? No. Is he going to be Elite? No. Yes, it’s a PG driven league know, but only one Elite PG has won a championship in the last 10 years, and that is Tony Parker. I know Jason Kidd won one with Dallas in 2011, but he wasn’t Elite at that time. Derrick Rose, CP3, Damion Lillard, John Wall, Russell Westbrook, Kyrie Irving, Deron Williams all have one thing in common, and it is that they haven’t made it to the Finals. The furthest any of those teams got was Deron Williams in 2008 when he was a member of the Jazz. So I don’t see the need to draft Marcus Smart, even though he has the tools to be a great defending PG. Burke has shown he can play. He isn’t athletic, but he has good court vision, he has shown he can keep his turnovers down. When he was out the first 12 games, it was apparent we really needed him. In the summer league, he struggled mightily. He struggled in preseason. But when he came back from his injury, he surprised us all at how fast he picked up. He was an ok shooter, he got to the rim, he showed he can pass, and more importantly, he has the clutch gene. He made many last second or clutch shots. I feel he can improve his game. It feels like he wants it. He has the IT factor. Now, if Exum is available at 5, we need to think about getting him. But he has the highest swing. He could be a superstar, and he could be a huge bust. We simply don’t know. If we got him, I feel he could play the 2 and backup Trey at the 1.
