Found December 18, 2012 on Project Spurs:

For years teams have been trying to be like the San Antonio Spurs. No team has been more consistent over the last 15 years, so why not? The Spurs have built a successful mold that other teams are going to try to copy, but in my opinion, no one has accomplished that goal yet. After hitting the game winner against the Spurs last week, Utah Jazz guard Mo Williams made reference to the fact that teams want to be like the Spurs, but you don’t always want to be stuck to the mold (via Bill Oram of The Salt Lake Tribune). Mo Williams says Spurs are a team "you kind of model yourself [after], but at the same time, you don’t want to be step brothers forever." — Bill Oram (@tribjazz) December 13, 2012 I guess being the “step brother” means trying to be like the other team, but always getting beat by them in a head-to-head matchup. The Jazz want to have the model of success the Spurs have, but also be able to take them down when the playoffs roll around. Getting a regular season win was a big step for the Jazz, but let’s not forget that the Spurs swept them out of the playoffs last year. They have a long way to go if they want to avoid the “step brother” role in the near future. The Spurs don’t play the Jazz again until the end of March, and that’s the rubber match of their three game season series. There’s no telling what the Western Conference standings will be like by the end of the season, so it’s way too early to predict whether or not these two teams will meet in the playoffs. Either way, since they’re currently sitting just a game over .500 and in eighth place in the West, I don’t see the Jazz ditching the “step brother” label just yet.

Pop raves about rookie De Colo

Celtics' Pierce comments on difficulty of defending Spurs

The days when the San Antonio Spurs had one dimensional players besides the "Big 3" of Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobili are gone.
