Game Thread

After a very successful week in Orlando, where they compiled a 4-1 record, the Celtics Summer League team  will attempt to continue to shine as they take on new competition in Vegas.  First up for the Celtics will be the Atlanta Hawks, who have already played 2 games in Vegas with mixed results.  They beat the Wizards 102-82 on the opening day of Vegas SL and then lost to the Spurs SL entry on Sunday, 82-76.
Unlike many of the teams in Vegas with top draft picks, we won't notice many big names on the Hawks since they didn't pick until 23rd in the draft.  Hawks picked G John Jenkins out of Vanderbilt with the 23rd pick and they drafted F Mike Scott out of Virginia with the 43rd pick.  Both are on the team.  Former Laker C Derrick Caracter is vying for a spot on the team as is Paul Millsap's brother Elijah.   F Pape Sy, who played for the Hawks in the '10-'11 season is also on the team.
On a positive note for the Celtics, Dionte Christmas is remaining with the Celtics this week.  He originally planned to join the Rockets' entry in Vegas but enjoyed much success with the Celtics in Orlando and decided that his best chance to gain a training camp invite was to stick with the Celtics.   The Celtics must decide whether to guarantee E'Twaun Moore's contract at the end of this week and it's possible that Moore and Christmas are playing for the same spot on the team.  These two will be worth watching this week, as will Sean Williams whose contract is also due to be decided on at the end of the week.
The lights shine a bit brighter in Vegas and there are fans in the stands and some of the competition will be a bit tougher and the Celtics will need to step it up this week if they want to replicate the success they had last week in Orlando.

Stiemsma to Minnesota is as good as done

The Celtics roster is almost complete.  The Jason Terry and Jeff Green deals are being finalized soon enough, meaning our roster looks like this right now: Guards:  Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Jason Terry Wings:  Paul Pierce, Jeff Green Bigs:   Kevin Garnett, Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger, JaJuan Johnson, Fab Melo, Chris Wilcox Non-Guaranteed:  E’Twaun Moore, Sean Williams...

Greg Stiemsma likely to be a Timberwolf

WEEI.com</a> According to a report from Darren Wolfson of ESPN, the Timberwolves expect to sign restricted free agent center Greg Stiemsma. Stiemsma, who averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 55 games with the Celtics as a rookie in 2011-12, visited with the Timberwolves at the start of the free-agency period. Wolfson reports that because the Celtics are over...

JO: Celtics Weren't a Good Fit

Jermaine O'Neal said that Boston wasn't a good fit for him. He's looking forward to finding a situation where he can have a better role.— Alex Kennedy (@AlexKennedyNBA) July 17, 2012 After taking $12 million over 2 seasons from the Celtics and playing in a grand total of 49 games, Jermaine O'Neal had the nerve to say that the Celtics weren't a good fit for him...

Boston Celtics Las Vegas Summer League observations, Day 1: Fab Melo reveals promise, upside

My apologies for a summer league recap that’s a day late and a few dozen dollars short, but I had a men’s league game in Springfield (an hour away from my house) last night for which I had to leave as soon as the Celtics game ended. I realize there might be one or two of you who actually value my opinions on Boston’s youngsters, and to you I am truly sorry — not just because...

Kevin Garnett's Influence Motivates Brandon Bass, Other Celtics

Brandon Bass did not allow himself to be starstruck for long after joining the Celtics last season. He spent the first day in slight awe every time Paul Pierce brought up the ball or Ray Allen drained a jump shot, but by the second day, Bass had shed his wonderment. Still, he never lost his admiration for Kevin Garnett and the startling work ethic the 17-year veteran displayed during...

Gang Green talking Celtics (and recipes) at 9

The guys at Gang Green are going live tonight at 9pm. I’m sure they’ll be talking about the Celtics need for another wing player and the impending loss of Greg Stiemsma. It’s also possible they’ll swap organic vegetarian recipes and origami tips. Can E'Twaun Crack the Rotation?

With the Celtics inability to complete a sign and trade with Dallas, it seems Courtney Lee will not be landing with the C's as Jason Terry will be using up the full Mid-Level. With Shooting Guard Avery Bradley in danger of missing some time to start the season as he recovers from 2 shoulder surgeries, the Celtics will need someone to emerge to take some minutes in a 3-guard...

Manna from hell: Darko Milicic should not intrigue the Boston Celtics

Editor’s note: This piece is written by Tom Westerholm, one of Celtics Town’s new interns who are all plotting to take over the NBA world. He also writes for HowlinTwolf.com and HoopsAddict.com, and he clearly isn’t very fond of the disturbing thought that Darko Milicic might actually be on the Celtics’ radar. Follow Tom on Twitter @Tom_NBA, or may God have mercy on your...

Hawks acquire 3-point shooter Korver

ATLANTA (AP) -- The active Atlanta Hawks improved their long-distance shooting Monday, acquiring small forward Kyle Korver from the Chicago Bulls for a trade exception and cash. The 6-foot-7 Korver averaged 8.1 points for the Bulls in 65 games last season, including seven starts. He ranked 10th in the NBA by making 43.5 percent of his 3-point attempts. First-year Hawks general...

Comments from the other side - Hawks SL Bonus Edition

I came across a summer league game thread from yesterday's game thread and the comments were so good I just had to share.  It appears that Hawks fans are quite bitter over their losses to the Celtics. I guess losing to the dame team year after year after year will do that to you!  There aren't a lot of comments like there are for regular season, but what they lack in quantity...
