I don't think Dirk Nowitzki will be quitting his day job any time soon.
The video is obviously meant to be funny, and I guess the fact that he doesn't appear to know what he's even singing does strengthen that assertion. Adding to that, he's German after all and not even "born in the USA." And as far as I can tell, he's not even drunk in this video, so at least he's not too self-concious, which is a good thing.
Maybe the fact that he wasn't born in the USA helps make sense of what we are seeing above? I'm not entirely sure, but he at least gets an "A" for the passionate effort. Hopefully with that same strong effort rehabilitating his recent off-season knee surgery, he'll be back on the court before we know it.

Video: Dirk completely annihilates a classic
As far as in-arena entertainment, The Dallas Mavericks consistently provide highly amusing bits to occupy their crowd during timeouts and lulls in the action. Earlier we showcased their parody of the new dance craze, “Gangnam Style,” we’ve also seen them create versions of popular songs like Kanye West’s “Power”. Up next, “Mavs Playeraoke.” This involves [...]
Mavericks All-World forward Dirk Nowitzki jammed to some Bruce Springsteen to pass the time as he recovers from knee surgery he had a couple weeks ago.
Nowitzki, born in Wurzburg, Germany, showed his appreciation for the stars and bars by destroying “Born in the U.S.A.” His performance fails the smell test, but his passion reigns supreme. We need more Dirk.
Since Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki is still recovering from knee surgery, he took some time out of his busy schedule to sing some karaoke.Check out Dirk belting out the classic Bruce Springsteen hit, "Born in the USA":(Courtesy of Eye on Basketball)
If you value your speakers and your eardrums, DO NOT turn up the volume.
It’s been an NBA kind of day around the old website here, so it seems only fitting we feature another NBA related post, albeit one that is quite a bit more fanciful and carefree than Dwight Howard’s airball free throw and Kobe’s terrifying death stare.
Enter Mavs forward Dirk Nowitzki. The big German...
At some point in the next few weeks, the Dallas Mavericks will welcome Dirk Nowitzki back to the lineup. But against all odds, they're doing just fine without him.
In past seasons the Mavs have looked lost without their superstar. But with a surprising 4-1 start, they appear to be flourishing. And with each passing day, the degree of difficulty seems to rise. Already missing...
And it’s just as bad as you thought it would be. It should be illegal for any man who WASN’T born in the USA to sing this song, but especially super-illegal for a goofy seven-foot tall man who was born in Germany. The Boss deserves better.
