It's been the hot topic in the NBA when Commissioner David Stern and the league fined the San Antonio Spurs $250,000 for sitting out Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Danny Green in the recent game versus the Miami Heat and sending them back to San Antonio. Everyone has put in their opinions on the topic and now Celtics head coach and former Spur Doc Rivers weighed in on the league's actions. Needless to say he did not agree with the steps the NBA took.

Doc Rivers Lauds Rick Majerus, Recalls When Memorable College Basketball Coach ‘Gave Me My Name’

Longtime college basketball coach Rick Majerus was remembered by many people Saturday night when news broke of the coach’s death. But few were as somber as Celtics coach Doc Rivers, who actually became Doc Rivers the day he met Majerus. “That’s a tough one for me,” Rivers said when addressing reporters before the Celtics’ loss to the Bucks in Milwaukee on Saturday. Rivers...

Boston Celtics respond to Doc Rivers’ challenge

It wasn’t exactly Larry Bird calling his teammates a “bunch of sissies” but Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers got the response he was looking for when he called out his team after Wednesday night’s loss to the Nets.  The Celtics delivered a resounding 96-78 win over the Portland Trailblazers last night at the [...]

Celtics Respond To Doc Rivers’ “Soft” Accusation

Boston hasn’t quite meshed the way they’ve wanted to. The talent is there and they’ve got youth on the bench now, but somehow, it isn’t flowing yet. And after another disappointing loss last week, Coach Doc Rivers decided to take the coaching to a cerebral level. Called his team “soft”. And that was enough to get a reaction out of his players. When asked about the comment...

Rivers criticizes NBA fine on Spurs

Celtics coach Doc Rivers says the NBA's fine against San Antonio was ''probably overdone'' after the Spurs kept four of their top players out of a game. Commissioner David Stern announced the $250,000 penalty on Friday. Before Friday night's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Rivers said he didn't like the punishment. He said a coach has to do...

Doc Rivers says Stern's fine on the Spurs won't prevent coaches from sitting players

David Stern fined the San Antonio Spurs $250,000 for sitting their star players during a nationally televised game with the Miami Heat on Sunday night. Celtics coach Doc Rivers responded to the fine by saying it "was probably overdone" and he doesn't plan on forcing his players to get on the court when they need rest for fear of a fine. Courtney Lee, Celtics Respond to Doc Rivers Calling Them Soft By Routing Blazers

BOSTON — Among NBA players, both on the Celtics and throughout the league, Doc Rivers might be the most popular coach around. He reputation for instilling accountability while turning even the most mundane practices into entertaining competitions is well-known throughout the league, which may explain why players polled last season named Rivers as the coach they would most like...

Doc and Danny clearly hate the Celtics’ “cruise control”

The Celtics have problems.  That’s pretty obvious.  But one thing that has clearly dug under the skin of both Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers is the Celtics  continued propensity to be… lazy.  Check out the quotes yesterday… first from Danny “A frustrating thing that I’ve had with this team over the last two years, not just this year — matter of fact it might be less this...

Celtics don't look soft, run past Trail Blazers

BOSTON -- Doc Rivers said his Celtics were "a soft team right now" after Wednesday night's loss to the Nets. Friday night, Boston, playing the first of two games without the suspended Rajon Rondo and getting all kinds of help from a woeful Portland team that was coming off losses to 3-11 Detroit and 0-12 Washington, was anything BUT soft. "It was good. Obviously...

Jason Terry Is ‘Fun’ Player Who Doc Rivers Thinks Everyone Should Have Opportunity to Coach

BOSTON — Jason Terry has had difficulty finding his niche so far in Boston, but no matter how inconsistent his scoring totals have been, the veteran guard has already made an impression on his new coach. Terry dropped 17 points to lead all Celtics starters in Boston’s 96-78 victory over Portland on Friday. That came just one week after he was held to five points against Oklahoma...

Just Another Group of Sissies

[Discuss on CG Forums! "We played like a group of sissies...I think everybody knows what we did wrong. It's not like we have to go out and beat them up. But still, you get inside position on a rebound, you just can't let somebody go over your back and take it away" Sounds like our Celtics right? Something that a present day player or coach would say after last...
