Found January 26, 2013 on The Victory Formation:
Kevin McHale has always been one of my least like NBA players in NBA history. A lot of that goes back to the 80s as a young Pistons fan, and watching them struggle to overcome the Celtics. Anyway, here he is making fun of the New Orleans Hornets changing their name to the Pelicans, which they will be known by beginning in the 2013 season. Jerk. But he’s right, just not a really good name. Sorry, New Orleans, it isn’t.

Rockets reinstate Royce White

The Houston Rockets have reinstated Royce White, who was under a suspension for not accepting a D-League assignment.

Kevin McHale unimpressed by the New Orleans Pelicans’ nickname

The New Orleans Hornets recently announced plans to change nicknames to the “Pelicans,” and they even unveiled the new team logo during the week. The pelican is the state bird for Louisiana, so the nickname has a lot more significance for New Orleans than the Hornets, which was the team’s nickname before moving to the Big Easy from Charlotte. Though the pelicans nickname is...

Rockets snap funk, respond with win over Hornets

NEW ORLEANS -- The Houston Rockets have been so starved for a victory in the past three weeks that Coach Kevin McHale was in no mood to waste a good crisis. The Rockets, who had lost eight of their previous nine games, jumped out to a 48-40 halftime lead over the New Orleans Hornets Friday night, but then allowed four quick New Orleans points to start the second half, cutting their...

Rockets fire on all cylinders in win over Nets

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets are an average team, but they are average in the most tantalizing way. The Rockets never play an average game. They either play great, or they play terribly. Seems like either the Rockets are drilling 3s all night or the other team is. This, perhaps, is an unintended consequence of the way they play. The Rockets like to get out wide and push the pedal...

Rockets Officially Reinstate Royce White

Perhaps the saga can come to a close soon now.  Royce White is once again a member of the Houston Rockets.  He will have to report to the Rockets' D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, but there is every indication that he will be able to work his way to the NBA team. The Rockets released their official statement last night.  It said in part:"The Houston...

New Orleans Pelicans Logo Revealed

The New Orleans Hornets will be changing their franchise name to the New Orleans Pelicans beginning next season. Louisiana is the Pelican State. The brown pelican is the state bird and appears on the state flag and seal, and official state painting. “Establishing the New Orleans Pelicans is a process of building a basketball…

Rockets 100, Hornets 82

NEW ORLEANS -- James Harden scored 17 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to lift the turnover-prone Houston Rockets to a 100-82 victory over the New Orleans Hornets Friday night at the New Orleans Arena. Winning for only the second time in 10 games, the Rockets broke open the game with a 26-11 spurt in a 5:58 stretch of the third quarter to take their biggest lead of...

Mike Conley leaves with sprained ankle, doesn't return

Mike Conley sprained his left ankle four minutes into Sunday's game against the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans, and didn't return. Conley missed his only shot and had one assist and a steal. Jerryd Bayless gobbled up the bulk of the minutes (37), and had a nice game: 14 points (6-12 FG, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, five assists and three steals. Tony Wroten did nothing in...

Rockets 119, Nets 106

James Harden scored 29 points, Chandler Parsons added 16 points and a career-high 11 assists and the Houston Rockets beat Brooklyn 119-106 on Saturday night for their 12th consecutive win over the Nets. Omer Asik had 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Rockets, who outrebounded the Nets 50-31 and outscored Brooklyn 60-24 in the paint. Nets star Deron Williams scored 27 points, but...

Rockets-Jazz Preview

The Houston Rockets appear to be back on track after their longest losing streak of the season, but their next challenge will be a difficult one. A third consecutive victory won't come easy Monday night as the Rockets try to prevent the Utah Jazz from a seventh straight home win. Houston (24-22) has won two in a row and three of four after a seven-game skid. The Rockets'...

Rise of the Pelicans

As you may or may not be aware, the New Orleans Hornets have decided to switch their team mascot, name and color combination to something a little more in line with the tradition and heritage of New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans basketball will now be represented by a pelican. That’s right, a pelican. [...]

Nets-Rockets Preview

The Brooklyn Nets are looking to re-establish their recent momentum, while the Houston Rockets are hoping they've already begun doing just that. The host Rockets may be feeling better about their chances Saturday night considering they're going for a 12th straight victory against the Nets. Brooklyn (26-17) had pulled within one game of Atlantic Division-leading New York...
