Otto Porter Jr. and Glen Rice Jr. are tearing it up in the 2014 NBA Summer League for the Washington Wizards. Credit a lot of their success to their genes. After a disappointing rookie season, Otto Porter looks ready to make major improvements. Porter’s father, Otto Porter Sr. was a high school star who holds the school record for rebounds(1,733)at Scott County Central High School in Sikeston,Missouri. On the other hand, Rice’s father is none other than Glen Rice Sr.. Rice Sr. is 60th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 18,336 career points. However, this is a new era. In other words, “move over pops” because the youngsters are making a name for themselves in the NBA. Porter’s Revival After snagging All-American honors in his final year at Georgetown University, Porter was drafted 3rd in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Wizards. Many expected Porter to take off instantly but that was not the case. Porter averaged just 2.1 points and 1.5 boards in 8.7 minutes per game in his rookie season. It’s a new dawn, a new day for Porter though.  The Wizards are currently riding high with a 3-0 record in the Las Vegas Summer League and one of the big reasons for their success is Porter’s stellar play. The 6-foot-9 small forward is averaging 19 points and 6.3 rebounds, while shooting 53.3% from the field in Las Vegas. The Wizards signed veteran small forward Paul Pierce earlier this week and that has many people wondering if Porter’s minutes will again be extremely limited. Nonetheless, Porter is only 21 years old and has a load of talent. He’s got plenty of time to impress the coaches enough in order to become a key piece in the Wizards’ rotation. Rice’s Arrival  Rice has also been blowing the opposition away in the summer league contests. Through 3 summer league games, Rice is leading the Vegas league in scoring at 22.7 points per game. Rice is also averaging 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists.  Rice has scored at least 22 points in each game that the Wizards have played so far in the summer league.Talk about being in a groove! Like Porter, Rice was drafted in 2013. He was a second-round pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. Coming out of Georgia Tech, Rice was known as a high-flying athlete. Now it is clear Rice has more to his game than just throwing down dunks. This kid is a scorer just like his dad was back in the day. Unfortunately, Rice averaged just 2.9 points in 9.9 minutes per game for the Wizards last season. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard only played in 11 games last year. It looks like Rice is doing his best to prove he can be a valuable scorer off of the bench for the franchise in the future because he sure is lighting things up in Vegas. Let’s just hope the old adage “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” does not apply to Rice’s future. This kid has potential.         The post Washington Wizards: Stuntin’ like their daddies appeared first on isportsweb.
