Randy Wittman will return as the coach of the Washington Wizards. The team announced Monday that Wittman will keep the job he accepted after Flip Saunders was fired early in the season. Wittman had previously been an assistant on Saunders' staff. The Wizards went 18-31 under Wittman to finish with a 20-46 record, second worst in the NBA. But they played better late in the season, winning their last six games and eight of their last 10. The announcement comes as no surprise. There have been no recent indications the Wizards were shopping for a new coach, and Wittman was under contract for another season. Wittman previously coached Cleveland and Minnesota. He has a 118-238 career record.

Wizards retain Wittman as coach

The Washington Wizards apparently saw enough progress at the end of the season to stick with Randy Wittman as their coach. Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld announced Monday that Randy Wittman, who replaced Flip Saunders on Jan. 24, will return. Terms of the contract weren’t released. Wittman guided Washington to an 18-31 record and a strong finish. The Wizards won eight of...

Jordan Crawford Stores His Shoes In The Refrigerator

As a former sneakerhead deterred only by added expenses and insufficient funds, I tend to pay at least a little attention to footwear as I tune in to NBA games.  This particular season I often noticed the feet of Jordan Crawford, and how many different Air Jordan models he adorned them with.  From the cardinal VIIs to the red suede Vs, Crawford’s collection stood out as one of...

Wizards Retain Randy Wittman

A lot has been said and written about the "direction" of the Washington Wizards since the start of last season's lockout shortened campaign. Is this team ready to grow and embrace the "youth" movement that has seemingly been going on forever? Will John Wall emerge as one of the elite guards in the game?  Will Burger King ever tell Andray Blatche that he...

Wizards Announce Retention Of Randy Wittman

The Wizards finished 18-31 (.367) after Randy Wittman took over the team and won eight of their final 10 games (including their last six in a row).

Why All The Uproar?

So it was announced that the Wizards are working on a deal to retain head coach Randy Wittman for the 2012-2013 season. And now everyone's angry that the squad did not look to go for one of the recently fired head coaches or look anywhere else. But as I've said all along, the coaches that got fired are not right for this team. Van Gundy, D'antoni and the rest of them...
