The Wizards and Scott Brooks parted ways earlier Wednesday, and GM Tommy Sheppard thanked him for both his contributions on the bench but also his assistance in creating a winning environment in Washington.
Sheppard said in a statement:
“We have been committed to taking the proper steps over the last two seasons to develop our young players, bring in pieces to complement Bradley Beal, and build a winning environment that will ultimately lead to sustained on-court success.
“Our organization will always be grateful to Scott for his dedication and work both on the court and in the community over the past five years and I personally admire and respect how he helped keep our team together during the unprecedented events of the last 15 months.”
Brooks compiled a 183-207 record during his time in Washington, but injuries to John Wall changed the course of tenure. Brooks made the playoffs on three occasions during his five years with the organization.
While Sheppard is looking for a new candidate to run the show as the Wizards’ new head coach, he was unwilling to put a timetable on it.
GM Tommy Sheppard wouldn’t put a timeline on finding a new coach.

“Patience is a competitive advantage,” Sheppard told our own Chris Crouse and other reporters during a press conference with the media. The GM stressed that finding the right candidate is more important than filling a slot in any amount of time.
Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington compiled a list of many potential candidates for the open head coaching position for the Wizards, which includes Chauncey Billups, Mike D’Antoni and Sam Cassell.
Robert Pack was also mentioned as a candidate for the head-coaching job back in January, per our own Crouse.
