The Washington Wizards lost to the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday by the score of 116-103. It was the second straight loss for the Wizards, who dropped to 35-33 on the season. Even with the loss, the Wizards are a solid sixth place in the Eastern Conference. They played without Marcin Gortat, who was out with an injured back. Kevin Seraphin started in place of Gortat. Keith Allison via Wikimedia CommonsCasey Holdahl, digital reporter of the Portland Trail Blazers, confirmed Gortat's status prior to the game.Hearing that Marcin Gortat (back) will not play tonight— Casey Holdahl (@CHold) March 21, 2014 It appeared the Gortat may have injured himself in pre-game warmups as he was walking back to the locker room in pain.  The injury came as somewhat of a surprise, since Gortat had played in every game this season up until that point.Seraphin played 19 minutes starting at center and had just four points and two rebounds, to go along with four personal fouls. Drew Gooden picked up the slack in Gortat's absence and score 18 of the Wizards' 32 bench points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. There is no word whether or not Gortat will be ready for tonight's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. If he cannot go, expect Seraphin to once again start and for Gooden, Trevor Booker and Al Harrington to pick up the slack. Gortat, the 30-year old from Poland, is in his seventh NBA season.  The veteran center has played for the Magic, Suns and Wizards. In his first season with the Wizards, Gortat is averaging 12.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.  In 424 career games, Gortat is averaging 9.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

John Wall wants Wizards to become Bullets again

In 1997, The Washington Bullets became the Washington Wizards (though not directly due to the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, as many believe). Wizards, a corny nickname with no local significance, hasn’t really caught on among the city’s passionate basketball fans. But it won’t change back to Bullets for two main reasons: 1. Most fans have passively accepted Wizards as the...
