MINNEAPOLIS The good news: J.J. Barea was present at Timberwolves practice Thursday. The bad news: He didn't participate. After falling near the scorer's table in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's win, Barea retreated to the locker room, where he was diagnosed with a left mid-foot sprain. No word was given at the time about his probable return, and there wasn't much new information on Thursday. Barea declined to speak to the media, but according to coach Rick Adelman, he's day to day, a question mark for Friday, and that's about it. So add Barea to the injured list, which right now comprises Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. At least with them, we have some kind of timetable; in fact, Adelman spoke briefly about the duo on Thursday. Love is still unable to participate much in practices with his broken right hand, and his workouts are limited to pre-practice conditioning. Rubio, though, is continuing to progress, and though Adelman was cagey about whether he'...

Stiemsma embodies underdog Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS In the final seconds of Wednesday's game, Greg Stiemsma lunged toward the basket, all 260 pounds of him, just in time to block E'Twaun Moore's layup. It was a desperate, last-ditch block, not thundering, hardly powerful, but it did the trick. No, I won't let you within 15, it said, at least not on this possession. No matter how tired I might be. No matter...

Timberwolves Injury News: Kevin Love to Return in December

Kevin Love has been out with a broken hand.  He suffered the injury while doing knuckle push-ups with a trainers said sources at the time.  He was expected to miss six to eight weeks due to the injury.  If that's the case, and if his rehab goes according to plan, the Minnesota Timberwolves star would have been expected to return in early December at the earliest.  Well,...

MINNEAPOLIS Brandon Roy did not return from the locker room at halftime of the Timberwolves-Pacers game on Friday. The team announced in the third quarter that he is out for the night with a sore right knee. Roy started the night strong, scoring six points in 15 minutes. He had one rebound and one assist, as well. No further information has yet been provided, but look for updates...

Military upbringing shaped Cunningham

MINNEAPOLIS When Portland selected Dante Cunningham with the 33rd pick in the 2009 NBA draft, it wasn't his first time playing for the Blazers. It just wasn't those Blazers. Cunningham lived in Germany from age 2 to 6, moving between Air Force bases with his parents, Ronald Cunningham and Searcy Blankenship, who were enlisted, and older sister, Davalyn. It was in Germany...

Suddenly, everything working for Wolves

MINNEAPOLIS The early days of this Timberwolves season are putting some severe restrictions on Alexey Shveds vocabulary. Great. Everything look great. We play great. Everybody play great. The rookie might sound like a Russian parrot, repeating it back, over and over, but in this case, what else has there been to say? Theres been no need for him to add "terrible" or ...

Wolves Friday: Barea out at least two games

MINNEAPOLIS J.J. Barea will sit for Friday night's game against the Pacers at Target Center, and when the team flies out to Chicago afterward, Barea will remain behind. The point guard suffered a left mid-foot sprain during the fourth quarter of Wednesday's win over Orlando, and for the past two days, the team has been vague about his status. It's still not clear when...

Wolves Wednesday: Wing play must improve

MINNEAPOLIS The drama is three months behind them in Orlando, and maybe it's helped. The Dwight Howard-less Orlando team is 2-1, and early on, it's posed a bigger challenge than most would have imagined. Yes, Glen Davis is the focal point of their offense. Yes, they're hardly deep. But the Magic have been solid early, especially in terms of 3-point shooting; they'...
