NEW YORK There's no Timberwolves practice today, so here are a few tidbits from Monday night, chief among them the success of the bench in the team's 107-96 win over the Nets.
Probably the most telling stat of the past week was reinforced in Brooklyn, where the trio of Chase Budinger, J.J. Barea and Dante Cunningham continued to be an incredibly effective unit off the bench. In 201 minutes together on the floor, Barea (plus-42), Budinger (plus-26) and Cunningham (plus-27) have combined for a plus-minus of plus-95 this season. That unit, along with Alexey Shved and Nikola Pekovic, was on the floor in the fourth quarter and secured the Minnesota win; coach Rick Adelman said he was so pleased with the group's execution that despite wanting to put Andrei Kirilenko back in the game, he elected not to.
Most notable about the positive plus-minuses from these three players is the contrast to last year, when Ricky Rubio (plus-50) and Kevin Love (plus-26) were the only two player...
BEST OF MAXIM
Wolves guard J.J. Barea and Cavs guard David Sloan have each earned the dubious distinction of being the first players given flopping warnings by the NBA.
MINNEAPOLIS In the final seconds of Wednesday's game, Greg Stiemsma lunged toward the basket, all 260 pounds of him, just in time to block E'Twaun Moore's layup. It was a desperate, last-ditch block, not thundering, hardly powerful, but it did the trick. No, I won't let you within 15, it said, at least not on this possession. No matter how tired I might be. No matter...
The Timberwolves are trying to tread water until Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio return from their respective injuries.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. It took a haircut and some concussion tests, a veteran coach and a magical momentum shift, and with that strange combination of luck, brains and skill, the Timberwolves coopted Brooklyn's fairy tale.
For three quarters on Monday, Brooklyn looked as if its hot streak would continue. There was an arena and then a storm, then finally a win, and then the strongest...
Rookie guard Alexey Shved and Chase Budinger led a furious rally from 22 points down, and the Minnesota Timberwolves came back to stun the Brooklyn Nets 107-96 on Monday night.
Shved made the go-ahead basket with 2:35 remaining and had a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter after going scoreless for the first three. The Timberwolves scored the final 11 points in an impressive...

Mark Cheel was able to chat with Luke Ridnour about being the oldest player on the Wolves roster, back issues that slowed him down and his goals for the current season.
Luke Ridnour had 19 points and five rebounds, and Greg Stiemsma got the rout started with six straight points to end the third quarter in a 90-75 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.
Stiemsma finished with 12 points and five rebounds, and Derrick Williams added 14 points and six boards for the Timberwolves, who are 3-1 for the first time since 2001. They led an ugly...
The Minnesota Timberwolves found themselves on the verge of a second consecutive loss before a big rally their last time out.
Now they're hoping for a change of fortunes against the Orlando Magic.
Minnesota tries to avoid an eighth consecutive loss to visiting Orlando, which could be without injured point guard Jameer Nelson again Wednesday night.
One day after falling 105...
MINNEAPOLIS -- Don't look now, but a week into the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves lead the Northwest Division -- even without injured stars Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. Minnesota improved to 3-1 with a 90-75 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday at Target Center. The Timberwolves are off to their best start since Kevin Garnett pushed them to a 6-0 record a decade...
Two NBA players have already been issued warnings about flopping under the NBA’s new anti-flopping rule. Guards J.J. Barea of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Donald Sloan of the Cleveland Cavaliers are the offenders and both of the “flops” occurred during games on Friday. Check out the plays and let me know what you think. In my opinion, Donald definitely showcased a [...]

In Brooklyn, it took the Timberwolves approximately 15 minutes to come back from a 22-point second-half deficit. Running a lineup that consisted primarily of Alexey Shved, Chase Budinger, Andrei Kirilenko, Dante Cunningham, and Nikola Pekovic, the Wolves put together a 32-point fourth quarter during which they buried four three-pointers and controlled the boards 19 to 9. It was...
