MINNEAPOLIS Alexey Shved, who's been out since he sprained his ankle Thursday night against the Clippers, went through practice on Tuesday, but he's still listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against Brooklyn. "Alexey did do some stuff on the court to try to see how he feels," coach Terry Porter said of the rookie guard. "I don't think he's ready yet. We'll see tomorrow. We didn't go up and down. Everything we did was half-court, and we went through that." Center Nikola Pekovic, who was expected to miss 7-10 days with a right quad contusion five days ago, did not practice. Porter said the team is focused on itself and its errors after playing well for 2.5 quarters in Atlanta Monday and then falling apart, which has been a common theme in recent weeks. Guard Luke Ridnour said the team hasn't even started looking at film of the Nets yet; he and his teammates are more focused on themselves and the things they've done to gi...

Wolves Wednesday: Shved, Pekovic still out

MINNEAPOLIS Alexey Shved and Nikola Pekovic will both be out for Wednesday's game against Brooklyn at the Target Center. Both were injured in the second half of last Thursday's game against the Clippers, Shved with a sprained left ankle and Pekovic with a right quad contusion. That gives the Timberwolves 10 healthy players against the Nets. The day after Pekovic's injury...

Alexey Shved Eyeing Return This Week

Alexey Shved came out of Monday's re-evaluation confident that he'll return to the Minnesota Timberwolves sometime this week.

Wolves' odd couple serves backcourt well

MINNEAPOLIS You don't notice Luke Ridnour. He doesn't want you to, for one thing, and it works. It works because he blends in. It works because there's Ricky Rubio to distract you, his injury early this season and his mere existence now that he's back. It works because Ridnour doesn't care who pays attention to him or writes about him or sings his praises. He...

Rubio passes it through Deron Williams' legs

Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio is a magician with the basketball.  Wednesday night, he through a nifty bounce pass through the legs of Nets guard Deron Williams before Williams realized it left Rubio’s hand. Derrick Williams flushed it. But pretty passes only add up to so much. Brooklyn beat Minnesota 91-83. Rubio finished with six assists and a subpar -8 point differential.

Wolves forced to use undersized lineup

MINNEAPOLIS Four inches and 82 pounds. That's a fair amount of height and a hearty dose of heft, and it's what the Timberwolves' starting backcourt was trying to make up for against Brooklyn Wednesday. There's no way around it: Luke Ridnour and Ricky Rubio are small. They're slight. Putting in J.J. Barea doesn't help, either, except to lower the center of...

Timberwolves G Barea fined for flopping

Minnesota Timberwolves guard J.J. Barea was fined $5,000 on Monday for his second violation this season of the NBA's anti-flopping rules. The league said Barea's second occurrence happened in a Jan. 14 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. His first warning came Nov. 5. The rule was put in place this season to stop players from excessive flopping on fouls. Brooklyn's Reggie...
