Pelicans guard Austin Rivers threw up a desperation three to tie the Pelicans-Mavericks game Saturday night and was the victim of the worst no-call ever, unless you’re from Buffalo because then it’s the Brett Hull foot-in-the-crease in the 1999 Stanley Cup.
With the Mavs up 110-107, Rivers found himself in a precarious position to the point where he had to heave up a three with seconds remaining. It would have been a somewhat clean look but for Monta Ellis’ arm mistakenly placed across Rivers’ arms. There’s a question whether Ellis got any ball at all. This brings new definition to referees swallowing their whistle.
At least Pelicans head coach Monty Williams gave two darns about the no-call. That’s him in the brown suit walking briskly off the floor. He must have had Dallas on the money line. All seven Pelicans fans were probably ticked.
The NBA, it’s fixtastic.
