Not long ago we were discussing a great story of a young man who found a place in MIke D’Antoni’s high flying system. All of a sudden the New York Knicks were relevant. Yet, now they are a discussion of disappointment again, what happened?

The whispers began to grow because during this exciting resurgence a shadow loomed. The shadow of a huge contract. The shadow of a player who we all knew didn’t fit in this run and gun style of moving the ball around. Then finally it happened. Carmello Anthony emerged from his injury to end the feel good story.

Since his return the New York Knicks have gone 3-8. The team had gone 9-1 the previous team games without him. Of course, he wasn’t the reason Jeremy Lin came back to reality. The schedule was certainly favorable, but all i heard was, “How could one of the best pure scorers in basketball coming back hurt?”…Well, i don’t know but it did! The Knicks investment in Anthony would make me believe that his return would only increase they ability to beat the top tier teams. His value is directly measured not on him being a pure scorer but making this team better.

Carmelo may be back but it has left the Knicks in a much worse position. Since his return, they have not only been on a downward spiral but have lost any chemistry they were building. He has effectively ended Linsanity and also ended D’Antoni’s tenure with New York. People are going to say Jeremy Lin really isn’t that good and the D’Antoni’s system doesn’t work. All I know is Carmelo Anthony came back and the Knicks are again a topic of disaster instead of excitement. The Knicks have been Carmelo’d!
