'1968 is the last time they were in a Super Bowl!' Stephen A. Smith lashes out at Aaron Rodgers’ Jets despite them making multiple offseason moves
Tori Lynn Schneider / USA TODAY NETWORK

It seems Stephen A. Smith has changed his mind about the New York Jets. Days after the veteran analyst called them playoff-worthy, he has now voiced a different opinion. In the show First Take, Smith launched a verbal attack on the Aaron Rodgers-led New York Jets over their lack of success in the league.

The Jets have had a proactive time this offseason. To turn the table upside down from last season’s disappointment, they have made some good signings. As Aaron Rodgers is all set to make a comeback from his Achilles Tendon injury, the Jets seemed to build a team around him. The process started with inducting one of the league’s finest offensive tackles (OT) Tyron Smith into the squad . In addition, they signed Mike Williams, who can change the dynamics of a game through individual caliber.

Following these efforts, Smith gave a rather positive take on the Jets team a couple of days ago. While criticizing Aaron Rodgers for the Nathaniel Hackett issue, the analyst also said that Rodgers still provides an essential identity to the team. The four-time MVP-Award winner is the sole reason, the fans are hoping high from the New York Jets, according to Smith

First of all, we talk about Aaron Rodgers as the leader. He got injured four snaps in the season. It was not that he was on the football field and we watched the Jets be the Jets last year. You want to blame Aaron Rodgers for something? Here's what you blame him for. What the hell that damn Nathaniel Hackett is doing in the dressing room? That's the reason you can blame Aaron Rodgers. Stephen A. Smith said

The New York Jets have nothing to fall back on, believes Stephen A. Smith

In the show, Stephen A. Smith reminded the panelists that the Jets won a Super Bowl last time in 1968. Hence, according to him, the possibility of them winning a Super Bowl is less. Other than that, the team has not had much success in recent times. Their last playoff AFC Championship Game appearance came nearly 12 years ago.

Would you be held hostage to Aaron Rodgers? Because of the Jets, what the hell have to fall back on to the New York Jets? For the better part, of the last five decades, 1968, was the last time when the New York Jets were in a Super Bowl. Think about that for a second. Stephen A. Smith added

Amid all the good signings, the Jets have one concern and that is injury. The new players including Rodgers, have been struck by injuries. Mike Williams is still recovering and Tyron Smith has also had multiple fitness concerns.
