Will Matt Ryan and the Falcons claim sole possession of first in the NFC South on Sunday?
Week 9 of the 2010 NFL season offers up some interesting matchups, as we’ll get to see just what the likes of the Buccaneers are made of.We’ll also get to see if the Vikings can get a much-needed win at home, if the Jets, Texans, and Steelers can rebound with wins after tough losses last week.
And hey, there could be an upset or two as well.
Here’s how I look for tomorrow’s early games to shake out, and as has been the case since last season, the odds are brought to you by SBG Global.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1:00 P.M. ET
Spread: Atlanta by 8
Total: 44.5
So, will the Falcons bring the high-flying Buccaneers down to earth this week? The Bucs were routed in both of their games against good teams (lost 38-13 to Pittsburgh at home in Week 3 and 31-6 at home to New Orleans in Week 6), and I think something similar will happen against the Falcons.
Pick: ATLANTA to cover, OVER 44.5
Buffalo Bills vs. Chicago Bears, 1:00 P.M. ET
Spread: Chicago by 3
Total: 41
The Bills are actually pretty entertaining for a winless team, whereas the Bears can sometimes be pretty hard to watch for a team with a winning record. I think it’s time for Buffalo to break the skid.
Pick: BUFFALO to cover, OVER 41
Cleveland Browns vs. New England Patriots, 1:00 P.M. ET
Spread: New England by 4
Total: 43.5
The Patriots can’t underestimate the Browns, who shocked the Saints in New Orleans two weeks ago. I think New England’s too level-headed of a team to do that, however. Six straight wins for New England, book it.
Pick: NEW ENGLAND to cover, UNDER 43.5
Detroit Lions vs. New York Jets, 1:00 P.M. ET
Spread: New York by 4.5
Total: 41.5
So what will we see from the Jets after seeing next to nothing from them, at least on the offensive side of the ball, in last week’s dud against the Packers? Fortunately, the Lions will offer up a little less defensive resistance than their NFC North rivals, which will help Mark Sanchez and co. get back on the winning track. It won’t come easy though – the Lions look to be a wee bit better than that 2-5 record indicates, given their close losses against the Eagles, Packers, and Giants, and last week’s win over the Redskins.
Pick: DETROIT to cover, OVER 41.5
Minnesota Vikings vs. Arizona Cardinals, 1:00 P.M. ET
Spread: Minnesota by 7.5
Total: 41
The Vikings are in desperate need of a win after falling into a tie with the Lions (gasp!) for the bottom spot in the NFC North. Thank goodness the schedule’s nice to them this week, eh? Favre should be able to get an early rest this week. Well, that all depends on how much Brad Childress elects to use his brain.
Pick: MINNESOTA to cover, OVER 41
Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints, 1:00 P.M. ET
Spread: New Orleans by 6.5
Total: 40.5
The Panthers actually played the Saints close back in Week 4, with New Orleans escaping with a 16-14 win. Will we see the same this week? Maybe, but I look for a much more polished performance from the Saints this time around.
Pick: NEW ORLEANS to cover, UNDER 40.5
Baltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins, 1:00 P.M. ET
Spread: Baltimore by 4.5
Total: 41
Baltimore’s a lot more exciting to watch when they’re lighting it up on offense instead of playing their defense, defense, defense-oriented game, but I look for a little more defense in this one than what we saw, or didn’t see, rather, in Baltimore’s last game. Ravens get it done though.
Pick: BALTIMORE to cover, UNDER 41
Houston Texans vs. San Diego Chargers, 1:00 P.M. ET
Spread: San Diego by 3
Total: 50
Should the Chargers be favored by a field goal on the road? Not just yet, even though I think we’re going to see a much better team than we saw for much of the first eight weeks. However, the Texans have had their struggles against tougher opponents this season, and I think an improving San Diego team will go into Houston and take care of business.
Pick: SAN DIEGO to cover, OVER 50
