Found January 18, 2012 on Chicago Bears Weblog:
Prior to the 2010 season, I was hoping that it would take a couple more years than it did for Jim Harbaugh to break into the NFL head coaching ranks. At the time, I figured Lovie Smith would have a year or two more before he coached himself out of the Bears’ gig, and thought it would be awesome to see Harbaugh return to Chicago. That dream is now dead, but how good is this guy? Wow. Takes practically the same 49ers team that had disappointed its fans for years and turns it, with its disappointing first overall pick quarterback, into a team that is now one win away from the Super Bowl. Last weekend’s NFL divisional playoff games proved a couple of things. First, anything can happen when for the first time a 15-1 team went one-and-done at home (Green Bay). Second, just when it looked for certain that the league is now dominated by passing offenses, three of the four remaining teams relied on their defenses to get them where they are. I was torn in my allegiances betwe...

Jim, John Harbaugh a win away from Super Bowl

When addressing his 49ers players this week, Jim Harbaugh can point to the monumental miss in his 15-year NFL career: He came a Hail Mary short of making the Super Bowl. He still has a visibly out-of-whack right pinkie and noticeable hitch in his step to show for his battle wounds. Big brother, John, never played at football's highest level and instead might motivate his Baltimore...

If Tice goes, Bears are in trouble

A day after the Bears’ 8-8 season ended, coach Lovie Smith was optimistic that his assistants would be in demand. “Hopefully, we’ll have guys on our staff that get an opportunity to move up,” Smith said. “I would like to see where some guys on our staff would get the opportunity to be head coaches in the NFL, too.” After interviewing for the Miami Dolphins’ head-coaching...

Sons' games pose a dilemma for Harbaugh parents

(01-16) 19:42 PST - Jim Harbaugh has joked that his dad, Jack, might be replicating. Jack Harbaugh has popped up on television from Baltimore, San Francisco and Bloomington, Ind., where he watched his son-in-law, Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean, direct the Hoosiers to an upset win over...

If Mike Tice leaves for Raiders, Bears are in trouble

Decisions, decisions: Where will the Harbaughs be Sunday?

Jim Harbaugh has joked this year that his dad, Jack, might be replicating. Jack Harbaugh has popped up on television from Baltimore, San Francisco and Bloomington, Ind., where he watched his son-in-law, Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean, direct the Hoosiers to an upset win over Kentucky in...

Giants-49ers rematch might be a classic

Jim Harbaugh typically watches NFL games as a coach, not a fan. By the end of the Giants ' 37-20 throttling of the Packers on Sunday in the NFC divisional playoffs, the 49ers ' head coach was pulling for the team with more passion. "If I ever do root in a game, it's always for the team that's...

Happy Hour- Jim Harbaugh

How good a coach is Jim Harbaugh? My answer is he’s the best coach in the NFL right now. Let’s review what he’s done. In 2006, Stanford’s football team went 1-12 and then Harbaugh was hired in December. In 2007 they immediately improved to 4-8 with a notable win at USC. In 2008 they once again improved to 5-7. In 2009 they jumped all the way to 8-5 barely...

Take it to the Bank: Conference Championships

MIKE KAYE Last Week: 4-0 / Season: 158-84 (65%)/ Playoffs: 7-1 We are down to the “Final Four” of the NFL Playoffs. While some fans may have tuned out to the league with their teams out of loop, those who have still hung on have had the joy of some breathtaking contests. The two match-ups for this weekend have great defense against great offense written all over both...

Bears reportedly say no to Vikings' request to interview Hoke

Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said he hoped some guys on his staff would get an opportunity to move up in the coaching ranks this offseason. Defensive backs coach Jon Hoke won't, however.

49ers Notes: Delanie Walker's status is still up to doctors

SANTA CLARA – Jim Harbaugh said Monday that Delanie Walker's status for Sunday's game would be up to the team's doctors, and the 49ers head coach is likely to keep the tight end's status fuzzy until shortly before kickoff.

The Bears Beat (01.18.12): Bears interview Giants’ Ross for GM

The Bears on Wednesday interviewed Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross, my preferred candidate of choice at this point, for their vacant general manager position. Mike Tice will interview for the Oakland Raiders head coaching position and the effects of his departure, should he get the job, would have a profound impact on the team’s continuity and success this year...
