In sports today there are the players that will put up huge games every three games or so and there are those who put up the numbers week in and week out. Very often the inconsistent guys are the ones who provide more fireworks and entertainment with their "did you see that?" type plays, one thing is for sure though, style points don't count in fantasy football. Did I mention the headache and hair loss that these guys can bring you? If you like roller coasters then these guys are for you, but if you are like most of us then you don't typically want to worry every week. What Desean Jackson is going to show up? Do I start him or do I sit him? Let's take a look at red flags and green lights coming into the 2012 season.

So keep you arms and legs inside the cart at all times and get your asprin ready, maybe look into rogaine for the end of the season. Here come the red flags.

(THE EPITOME OF INCONSISTENCY) Desean Jackson WR Philadelphia Eagles:
We all know the story on Desean Jackson; one of the fastest wide receivers in the game, supreme talent and an absolute head case. Desean Jackson has caused many fantasy owners to go grey in their 20's or in more severe cases have it fall out (such as I). Jackson can put up absolute monster games and then can all but disappear for the next few.

A small sample size can come from just the first four weeks of last season where he opened the season with six receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown. Guess what he did the next two, two receptions for 21 yards and two receptions for 30 yards. Ouch right?

Then week four rolls around and who knows, maybe you sat him after his two pedestrian weeks and played someone else in his place, so what does he do? You guessed it, six receptions for 171 yards on your bench! That is Desean Jackson at his finest, if you do draft him you almost have to play him every week in hopes that he will put up one of his big games and just take the blows on the chin along the way. Oh and by the way, good luck!

(THE OTHER JACKSON) Vincent Jackson WR Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
Much like Desean, "V-Jax" has good speed, great talent and can completely disappear for weeks at a time. Vincent Jackson is a very tall wide receiver at 6' 5" and can out jump any corner in the NFL but still decides when he wants to play and when he doesn't.

Lets take a look at weeks 4-9 last season, week 4 he caught three passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, 36 yards per catch. Weeks 5-7 he combines for seven receptions and 98 yards. You're thinking, what happened? Where did V-Jax go? Should I play him, do I sit him? Then week 8 rolls around and you play him much to your liking as you watch him go off for seven catches 141 yards and three touchdowns. You start patting yourself on your back for playing him as you looked like a genius. Then you confidently play him week nine and he has one catch for 22 yards.

This season Jackson is no longer paired with Phillip Rivers but with Josh Freeman and a very unpredictable Tampa Bay offense this season, this season can be even more of a rollercoaster ride for Vincent Jackson owners.

(NOT AS WELL KNOWN) Robert Meachem WR San Diego Chargers:
Meachem has played his first five season in New Orleans with a very crowded wide receiver group. Many like to say that this is the reason that Meachem has been so inconsistent to start his career. That could be a good argument but that simply is not the case.

Already being listed as the Chargers first wide receiver Meachem will see plenty of playing time, this won't change his inconsistent performance though. Meachem has not been a starter yet in the NFL and this season can come with many growing pains and ups and downs. With Vincent Brown behind him and Brown's ability to come up with spectacular catches and a fan favorite Meachem could lose that starting spot with inconsistent play.

Other mentions of inconsistency; WR Torrey Smith BAL, WR Denarius Moore OAK, WR Percy Harvin MIN

What you see is what you get, no surprises here.

(HE DOES IT WITH NO QB) Larry Fitzgerald WR Arizona Cardinals:
Somehow Larry Fitzgerald keeps putting up impressive numbers (80 rec 1,411 yards 8 TD last season), without a great quarter back since Kurt Warner. Last year with the combination of Kevin Kolb and John Skelton, Fitzgerald was able to bring steady fantasy production all season long. A four-week sample from last season; 7 rec 149 yards 1 TD, 3 rec 65 yards, 6 rec 105 yards 1 TD, 9 rec 149 yards. Fitz may have had the one down week but the difference is that the other three were absolute dynamite performances. Consistency is defined as-constantly adhering to the same principles, course, form. A.K.A. Larry Fitzgerald.

(TARGET MACHINE) Roddy White WR Atlanta Falcons:
It's very easy to be consistent when you lead the league in targets for consecutive years and 100 receptions in each of those. When quarterback Matt Ryan drops back his eyes almost immediately go to number 84. Even with the emergence of Julio Jones, White could still lead the league in targets as the Falcons will spread the offense out more this season and look more to the aerial assault. There isn't much more you can ask for then 100 receptions for 1,296 yards and 8 touchdowns.

(REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD) Brandon Marshall WR Chicago Bears:
Need I remind you of the old Jay Cutler to Brandon Marshall connection. The duo was lethal in Denver and will be more of the same in the windy city. In three seasons together Marshall compiled 307 receptions 3,710 yards and 23 touchdowns. Each of those seasons he caught over 100 passes and was targeted very heavily. Don't forget about the 21 receptions for 200 yards game. This season is Brandon Marshall's to shine aside from Calvin Johnson, Marshall could be the top wide receiver in 2012.

Other mentions of consistency: WR Dwayne Bowe KC, WR Victor Cruz NYG, WR Marques Colston NO
