Mario Williams has recorded 241 total tackles, 53.0 sacks and 11 forced fumbles in 82 starts in the NFL. The star pass-rusher is expected to become a sizzling commodity in 2012 NFL Free Agency.
In what was considered a very questionable call, Williams was selected first overall in the 2006 NFL Draft just ahead of the likes of Vince Young and Reggie Bush. Contrary to Bush and VY, Super Mario has spent his six seasons in the league all with the same team—the Houston Texans.
However, despite exceeding early expectations in the transition to the 3-4 system at outside linebacker, it’s not too likely that he’ll return to H-Town in 2012.
The Texans are cap-strapped heading into the offseason and got along well without him from early October to early January with the emergence of young up-and-coming outside rushers in Brooks Reed (aka Clay Matthews clone) and Connor Barwin.

Mario Williams to the Pats? It could happen
Set to become a premier prospect on the free agent circuit, there’s no question Mario Williams is about to get the big bucks.
Whether it’s from the Texans, or another team that attempts to pry him away, Super Mario will have a long list of suitors willing to fork over the cash.
Might the Pats be amongst that list?
As improbable as it sounds, considering their approach...
NFL Rumors: Could the Titans Be After Mario Williams?
It seems unlikely that the Houston Texans can retain Mario Williams. Williams has big money looking to be paid to him and their salary cap could be in a hole even if they franchise-tag the pass-rusher.
Many rumors have him going other places, such as the New York Jets. The Jets and Rex Ryan have been looking for an elite pass-rusher to fit their solid 3-4 scheme. They are just a...
Mario Williams’ future remains up in the air with the Texans
As we get closer to the beginning of the free agency period in the NFL, things between Mario Williams and the Houston Texans remain uncertain.
So far all indications are that there hasn’t been any progress made on getting a long-term done between Williams and the Texans.
If the Texans want to place the franchise tag on Williams, it will cost them $20 million in 2012, which is...
Patriots To Make Run At Texans DE Mario Williams?
This could all be moot if the Texans try to wrap up their superstar defender but it would not stun Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly one bit if the Patriots make a play for DE Mario Williams. Bill Belichick is nothing if not opportunistic, and he knows that having one of the finest defensive talents potentially come free like this is a once-a-decade kind of thing he can't afford...
Could Mario Williams help Cowboys up front?
As we continue to prepare for the Cowboys offseason and free agency which is right around the corner, there are a number of plates spinning in the air in the Valley Ranch war room.
For instance, how does the draft in April and the free agency season of March fit together? Which of the priorities for this squad move to the top of the list? And how quickly can the Cowboys declare...
Patriots to try and sign Mario Williams?
Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly believes Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots could try and sign Houston Texans defensive end/linebacker Mario Williams once he becomes a free agent on March 13th.
I honestly don’t see Belichick going after Williams, since he was still able to get a solid pass rush this season with Mark Anderson, Vince Wilfork and Andre Carter. And...
Report: Houston Texans To Use Franchise Tag on Mario Williams
ShaneJohn Clayton reported today on ESPN’s NFL Live that in the event they are unable to resign him, the Houston Texans will likely use the franchise tag on Mario Williams. This would be a stunning move for a team that played well on defense despite losing Williams in week 5 versus the Oakland Raiders. The [...]Sports-Kings - The Kings of Sports Lists
Peruse this list of Top 50 free agents… see any you like?
Every year, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports puts together a much-anticipated list of the Top 50 free agents. It’s not based on overall talent right now, but it’s compiled judging “bang for the buck,” Prisco writes.
Texans LB Mario Williams is the No. 1 player, and that’s not a surprise. But what may be surprising is that with nearly 20 free agents, the Patriots...
