Battle of South Florida ends with Bucs on top of Fins 20-7

The Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers met Friday night under the moon and lights in Miami for each club's first preseason contest of the 2012 season.

The game started off smoothly for the Bucs as they scored on their first two drives with touchdown runs by rookie running back and first-rounder from Boise State, Doug Martin, and veteran running back LeGarrette Blount.

Martin was very impressive in his NFL debut with seven carries for twenty 21 yards; he also was not the only Buccaneers' rookie to showcase playmaking ability as LaVonte David of Nebraska was all over the field recording the games lone interception.

While the Bucs' offense thrived in the first quarter the Dolphins failed to get anything started with quarterback Matt Moore, who started the game in place of a recovering David Garrard. Moore recorded a dismal perfomance going 7-for-12 for 79 yards and was intercepted by rookie LaVonte David in the first quarter as well as throwing the only pass to Miami's new aquisition, Chad Johnson, who in turn dropped his intended pass.

After starting slow and trailing by 14 going into halftime, there was a bright spot for the men of Miami. Texas A&M rookie quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, showed he was a contender for the starting spot to control the Dolphins' offense going 14-for-21, throwing for 167 yards with an 11-yard touchdown strike to tight end Charles Clay late in the third quarter.

Tannehill was 8-for-9 on the scoring drive and showed great poise in the pocket as well as good ability to run and throw the ball; look for him to get more reps with the Dolphins' starting offense this coming week.

The Bucanneers added two field goals late in the game to extend their lead from seven to 13. While the Dolphins travel to Carolina to face the Cam Newton and the Panthers, the Bucs will play host to Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 of the preseason.
