Eight consecutive losses is not the way any team wants to end a season, but that is how the Detroit Lions finished the 2012-2013 campaign.  Posting a miserable 4 and 12 record the Lions finished last in their division and seriously underachieved.  The main reason for this is the Lions defense giving up the sixth most points per game in the NFL last year. With the signing of running back Reggie Bush adding one more weapon to a very potent offense, the Lions have an easy path to draft success.  That being said let’s get into the Lions draft strategy.             Being the GM for the Lions this year is almost a no lose situation considering that the defensive prospects in the first five picks are much stronger than their offensive counterparts.  The defense was not terrible about giving up total yards passing or receiving, but seemed to give up huge touchdowns and too many points.  The best way to bolster a team that gives up big plays is to draft a defensive back or defensive end that...

Jim Schwartz’s family is finally speaking with him again after Lions' terrible season

The Detroit Lions were one of the most disappointing teams in football last season, going from a playoff appearance in 2011 to a miserable 4-12 record in 2012. Lions could stash running back Jahvid Best on PUP for 2013

The Detroit Lions are not ready to give up running back Jahvid Best. Best missed the entire 2012 season while dealing with concussion symptoms. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said that he would consider placing the running back on the physically unable to perform list for the entire 2013 season. Such a move would give Best more like to recover and in a best case scenario allow...

Reggie Bush could push the Lions over the playoff hump

Last season was nothing short of disastrous for the Detroit Lions. Coming off a rare playoff appearance, the Lions were never able to put together complete games, and their 4-12 record reflected that. At times, the offense or the defense would play well, but it was never for an extended period of time, and they never came across as the same threatening team that they were in 2011...

Reiff, Mayhew, and the failure to make good decisions in the draft

Sometimes it is hard to be a Detroit Lions fan. Strike that, pretty much all the time it is tough to be a fan of this team that cannot ever seem to make the right decision on the day when good teams have to make quality decision to make their roster better. Two headlines from [...]

Record shows Mayhew has to do better

The two surprise teams that made the NFC playoffs last season did so largely because of sharp decisions in the draft a year ago. Seattle went from 7-9 to 11-5 after taking quarterback Russell Wilson in the third round, 75th overall. Wilson gave the Seahawks a surprising dual threat and was arguably just as productive as higher-profile picks Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. Washington...
