It is never too early to look ahead to the 2013 fantasy football season and as we gear up for the start of the NFL offseason, there is no better time to take one final early look ahead to 2013 before the focus of the fantasy world turns to the NFL Draft, free agency and trades.
So, this is the second part of our way too early PPR Fantasy Football Rankings for the 2013 NFL Season. Last week we ranked the top 25 quarterbacks for the 2013 season and today we will rank the top 40 running backs heading to next year.
Now this ranking will certainly change. The draft and free agency, as well as other roster moves, will have a big impact on these rankings, which will be re-evaluated following the 2013 draft. Yet, right now knowing what we know, one thing is for sure, the running back position is returning to strength in 2013 and I believe it is safe to say that come (fantasy football) draft time, running backs are going to be coming off the board early and often.
Before we get to the rankings, here are a few thoughts:
Despite a disappointing end to the 2012 season due to injury, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is poised for a breakout season. With all the talk of how the offense of new Eagles head coach Chip Kelly will help quarterback Michael Vick, the real beneficiary of Kelly's genius will be McCoy, who was long under utilized by Andy Reid. Trust me, Kelly is going to get Shady the ball and the former Pitt star will prove why he is an elite fantasy option once again in 2013.
C.J. Spiller is another runner whose primed for fantasy stardom next season. The former Clemson product, ranked fifth among running backs in standard point per reception formats in 2012 and if the Bills are smart enough to get him around 20 touches a game in 2013, he could easily crack the top three.
Spiller is an explosive player waiting to happen as he lead the NFL by averaging a ridiculous 6.0 (YPC) while also averaging more than 10 yards per reception. The only thing holding him back in 2012 was the reluctance of then head coach Chan Gailey to turn the offense over completely to Spiller and instead kept a time-sharing going with former starter Fred Jackson, who is still a nice player but nowhere near Spiller's level. Hopefully the new Bills coaching staff will learn from past mistakes and gives Spiller the touches he needs and deserves.
And finally before getting to the rankings, Giants running back David Wilson debuts in our 2013 running back rankings at no.19, following the release of former starter Ahmad Bradshaw last week. I was conservative ranking Wilson at this point, mainly because of Andre Brown and the Giants well-known preference of a two-back system. Yet, this kid is explosive and he has big upside potential, so he is an up and coming back to keep an eye as the 2013 season approaches.
That's all for now, here are the 2013 way too early PPR Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings:

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed QB Dennis Dixon off of Baltimore’s practice squad. Not long after this news broke, a report by Mike Garafolo of USA Today came out that said the Chiefs were interested in trading for Nick Foles. The timing of Garafolo’s report seems quite auspicious, doesn’t it? Michael Vick re-signed, Dixon is on board and the general feeling that Foles...
The Philadelphia Eagles have yet to discuss trading
quarterback Nick Foles, but they’d require a first- or second-round draft pick
in order to even consider it, according to Rob Maadi of The Associated Press.

After the Philadelphia Eagles were blown out in their season finale, and Andy Reid was fired, Michael Vick blasted his Eagles teammates for “quitting, and their lack of desire.”
Vick I assume thought his time with the Eagles was over, and he was just fed up with the lack of heart around him. Fast forward about a month and a half.
The Eagles have a new coach, new system, and...
Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that “a person informed of the team’s thinking” informed him that the Chiefs are discussing the idea of adding a quarterback and specifically mentions Nick Foles as an option.
The Eagles re-signed Michael Vick earlier in the week and added Dennis Dixon this morning, but appear to still have interest in keeping Foles.
There’s been speculation...
Once again the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback situation is in the news, as the team signed 28-year old quarterback Dennis Dixon to a two-year contract yesterday, just days after restructuring the contract of Michael Vick, who has entered the past two seasons as the franchises’ starting quarterback.
Dixon, who was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round of the 2008...
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction...Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, or sumlin like that. The Eagles sign Dennis Dixon, and now Big Red wants to move Shaggy Foles to his Chiefs.

It's the time of year when NFL teams are jockeying for position as the days to the draft and free agency both draw closer and closer. Is it just desperation, or do the great minds in the football world suddenly turn to mush when evaluating available talent? Even the commentators seem to spew forth at the mouth while forgetting the history of the players up for grabs. Is it just...
Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley believes LeSean McCOy can be the best to ever play the game of football.
“He can be the best,” said Staley, per PhillyMag.com. “He can be the best to play the game.”
I agree with Staley, there’s just something about McCoy that makes me believe he can be great. In my opinion he’s already the NFL’s best running back...
