I think we all know by now that today marks the 20th anniversary of the Redskins’ Super Bowl XXVI victory over the Bills. Hallelujah.
But did you know that Super Bowl is only the 33rd-best (or 13th-worst) Super Bowl of ever? Well, it is, at least according to Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager, who ranked all 45 Bowls based on quality, competitiveness and significance, which is to say it’s subjective.
Here’s where he slotted the four Super Bowls in which the Redskins appeared:
No. 33 — Super Bowl XXVI: Washington Redskins 37, Buffalo Bills 24
No. 19 — Super Bowl XVII: Washington Redskins 27, Miami Dolphins 17
No. 17 — Super Bowl XXII: Washington Redskins 42, Denver Broncos 10
No. 14 — Super Bowl VII: Miami Dolphins 14, Washington Redskins 7
Considering the Redskins lost VII and won XXVI and XXII in landslides, I’d probably have bumped XVII up the list (Diesel!). But I guess the first Super Bowl-winning African-American quarterback and the NFL’s only perfect team have to stand for something...
