No I am not talking about Joe Flacco. That guy plays an okay regular season, plays out of his mind in one postseason, wins the Super Bowl, and gets the richest contract in NFL History. Did the Ravens get a little too carried away? That’s obvious, but the bigger question is if anyone else deserves a contract like that in the near future. No, I don’t mean Tony Romo guys; I’m talking about Aaron Rodgers. Photo Credit: Kevin Terrell/AP Images We live in a generation where if you do one thing right you get rewarded handsomely. In Tony Romo’s case you just have to suck in the postseason and you get rich. Would love to be a Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback these days because one playoff win in his career seemed to be enough for a six year extension worth $108 million, with more guaranteed money than what Flacco received. As these two quarterbacks got their contracts Rodgers just laughed, and Ted Thompson cringed. In a few days Aaron Rodgers will receive his brand new contract extension in the ballpark of $25 million per year, for four years at least. That would make him the richest NFL player in history, and he deserves it more than anyone. In his first postseason game, Rodgers put on a show in the desert by tossing for 423 yards and four scores. The Pack lost the game, but he really showed Green Bay that they had made the right call in kicking Favre out of town in favor of Rodgers. He was their franchise quarterback. Following the loss though, many analysts questioned if Aaron was good enough to lead the Green and Gold to a Super Bowl victory. Rodgers did not waste too much time to show them up. In 2010 Rodgers led the Pack to the playoffs as the sixth seed in the NFC. They were matched up against Michael Vick and the Eagles, but Rodgers did not care one bit. While playing with the biggest chip on his shoulder Rodgers torched Philadelphia as he threw for three touchdowns and no turnovers. That win took them to Atlanta where they faced the vaunted Falcons in a game that most picked would be a walk-over win for ATL. What did Rodgers do this time? Maybe, put on the best single game I’ve seen a quarterback play in the postseason by just annihilating the Falcon defense. Do you disagree? Well, you tell me how 31-36, 366 yards, and three touchdowns sounds before you speak, and yeah it was on the road. Next up was divisional rival Chicago who gave Rodgers trouble throughout the game. He committed his first and only two turnovers in the postseason in Chicago, but the Pack prevailed thanks to the help of several key defensive plays. Rodgers did not let the spotlight of the Super Bowl get the best of him, even though he was up against the terrifying Steelers defense. Mr. Rodgers went 24 for 39, 304 yards, three touchdowns, and once again zero interceptions on his way to his first Super Bowl ring. He put the team on his back and walked out of the spotlight of Brett Favre in one swoop. Following that impressive run, similar to Flacco’s this past year, Rodgers went out and led the Packers to a 15-1 record and coupled that with the NFL MVP honor. During the season he posted an incredible 45:6 touchdown to interception ratio and ran away with the award. The Pack lost to the Giants and Niners the previous two postseasons, but it has been more of the lack of defense than the offense’s fault. Rodgers is easily the best quarterback in the NFL because of his arm strength, accuracy, durability, mobility, and decision making. To see Flacco get $20 million a year pretty much made it a foregone conclusion that Rodgers would get around $25 million for at least four years. Does he deserve it? YES. -Huberman
