It's not as though an out-of-work NFL coach has pick of the litter when trying to acquire a new job.  The challenges they face are a bit different than us "regular Joes," but it is still a competitive environment with plenty of qualified candidates. Exceptions do exist though.  Bill Cowher could go to just about any NFL team with an open head coaching position and simply say "I'll take it" and the gig would be his.  Guys like Jon Gruden and Bill Parcells may also possess this ability.  Basically if you've coached a team to a Super Bowl win, you're on a different level. The other advantage for coaches like Cowher and Parcells is not only do they jump to the front of the line in the application process, they have the ability to force the termination of a current coach. Say the Cowboys lose all their remaining games, but Jerry Jones is hesitant to fire Garrett.  Cowher calls up the Cowboys and says "I'm yours if you want me."  Boom - Ga...
