HBO’s Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins Tuesday night after a one-year absence (thanks again lockout) it appears the show will have a strong season once again. Here are three things that viewers have to look forward to for the rest of the show’s season:

1) The Quarterback Battle

The Dolphins brought in veteran quarterback David Garrard who (like Hard Knocks) is coming back from a year off due to injury to compete with Matt Moore for the starting spot. Also, rookie Ryan Tannehill is in the competition as seen in the show when he reports to training camp two days late after finally signing his rookie contract.

The Dolphins have not drafted a quarterback in the 1st round since Dan Marino and there will be plenty of hype behind the young Tannehill. Although rookie Head Coach Joe Philbin named David Garrard his starter, he said it was simply a league formality as the competition is far from over. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and even if Tannehill winds up third on the depth chart, I am sure his beautiful wife, Lauren will get plenty of screen time.

2) Chad Johnson’s antics

Chad Johnson is at it again, making his second appearance on Hard Knocks (last time with the Bengals) and he wants to make sure everyone knows that he is back to being the receiver he once was before a dismal 2011 season in New England. I do not think I could do Chad justice by describing his behavior so I’ll let him do it:

“Last year, I took a year off to give everybody else a chance to catch up.”

“If you pause Call of Duty for somebody, that’s the f*cking one.”

“Are you watching? You been out there? I’m fast as ****.”

“I feel like I’m moving. I feel like a cheetah. I feel…I feel black.”

“I didn’t have sex the entire season last year because of my play. Well, when I scored a touchdown, well she (Johnson’s wife) allowed me to score. But after that I went back on cobweb mode.”

The quotes will keep coming, here’s to hoping Chad and Reggie Bush play FIFA on every episode.

3) Subtle Jabs at Rex Ryan and the New York Jets

The New York Jets were the last team to appear on Hard Knocks back when Braylon Edwards was on the team. Edwards appears as a free agent trying out for the Dolphins in the first episode. When asked by Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland who he should call who would tell him to absolutely sign him, Edwards replied quickly with “Rex Ryan.” Ireland smiled and said, “I’m not calling Rex Ryan.” Shockingly Braylon Edwards will not be a Miami Dolphin this season. Also, after Chad Johnson had a media session in which he used the F-word several times, Joe Philbin had a talk with him.

Perhaps a little over analytical but Philbin’s telling of Chad that the use of one F-word in a key situation can be much more powerful than using the world all the time sounded a lot like the antithesis of Rex Ryan’s style. To be clear, Philbin is not speaking directly about Ryan, but it seems like the Hard Knocks editing team wanted to make sure that was in there. Look for more random mentions of the archrival Jets, just as the Dolphins were mentioned multiple times on their season of Hard Knocks.

Hard Knocks premieres every Tuesday at 10pm on HBO.
