Pro Football Zone:
49ers offensive lineman Alex Boone believes the playoffs will have to come through San Francisco even though they’re 2-2 and in second place behind the Seahawks in the NFC West.
“No, not at all. We know Seattle has to come into our house. The road through the playoffs will come through us, obviously,” Boone told KNBR-AM on Monday, per the team’s official website via NFL.com. “And we know they’re going to play some good teams, and we control our own destiny.”
I’ll believe what Boone is saying when the 49ers actually have a passing game as well as a secondary that can shut down teams the way the Seahawks do.

Vernon Davis had been non-existent in the last two games for the 49ers. He had just three catches in a blowout loss to the Seahawks and he did not play against the Colts, due to a hamstring injury. His ineffectiveness thwarted the 49ers offense in the passing game as well as the running game.
Davis has become a huge part of the 49ers passing game because he provides a big target...
LaMichael James is stuck in a tough spot right now. He is behind Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, and even Anthony Dixon on the RB depth chart with the 49ers. Throw in the injured Marcus Lattimore and there is a serious logjam at RB. After only getting 3 carries that resulted in 0 yards last week, James was upset and fired off this tweet that he later deleted of course: I understand...
San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner asked his mom, then went ahead and legally changed his last name to Hitner. Bold move right there.
The 49ers made some moves today. They have released both QB BJ Daniels and FB Owen Marecic and filled one of those roster spots with LB Jermaine Cunningham.
The other spot left vacant on the roster is supposed to be filled by QB John Skelton, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

The San Francisco 49ers have signed quarterback John Skelton to a one-year contract, giving them a strong-armed third-stringer under center.
Skelton signed a day after the reigning NFC champions waived rookie B.J. Daniels, who still could be an option to join the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Skelton was cut by the Bengals on Aug. 31 when they set their 53-man roster. Cincinnati...
The San Francisco 49ers never expected Aldon Smith to miss the extended time that he will miss this year. Fortunately, something can be done before it is too late for him. In the meantime, the 49ers will turn to a certain rookie outside linebacker to help them generate some kind of pass rush. That rookie is Corey Lemonier. He is one of the more underrated pass rookie pass rushers...
Okay…is Kap really dating Sanaa Lathan or is she getting pub for her new movie??? I’m suspicious! Either way she’s gorgeous and I want to see Best Man Holiday.
Women aren’t the only one writing San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick letters. Reporters are doing it too. An SF Gate reporter has penned an open letter to Kap saying that he’s a jerk to the media and that his...
Left tackle Joe Staley said his left ankle is “perfect” and mocked how his career “flashed before my eyes” Thursday night when he got hurt with two minutes to go after a LaMichael James run.
Staley who’s started every game since 2009 showed no signs of trauma as he walked around the locker room bare-footed Tuesday. (Memo to Joe from the NFL’s Center of Disease Control...
49ers safety Donte Whitner has filed the necessary paperwork to legally change his last name. To what, you may ask? From SF Gate:
After tweeting his intent this morning to legally change his last name to “Hitner,” Whitner, who is known for his physical style, confirmed in the locker room that, yes, he’s quite serious about removing the “W” from his last name. In fact, on...
San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner who has revealed he was fined $21000 by the league for a hit during last Thursday night's victory over the St. Louis Rams said Wednesday he's dropping the "W" from his last name.
"I actually put the paperwork in yesterday afternoon. Just waiting to get the paperwork out" he said in a conference call with the Houston...
San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner is unhappy with the NFL for fining him $21,000 for his hit on St. Louis Rams wide receiver Chris Givens last Thursday. Whitner felt the hit was legal, and he has since created T-shirts that read “Legal Hitner” as a way of protesting the decision and having a little […]
Aaron Wilson reports that the Seattle Seahawks have claimed QB B.J. Daniels off of waivers from the San Francisco 49ers.
Daniels, 23, was a surprising release on Tuesday. Reports indicated that the 49ers were hoping that he would pass through waivers so that he could be added to their practice squad, but the Seahawks obviously prevented that from happening.
San Francisco has since...
San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner is pissed at the NFL for fining him for a big hit he laid on Rams receiver Chris Givens last week.
Now, $21,000 lighter in the wallet, he’s even taking to Twitter, starting a #LegalHitner campaign and creating T-shirts to back his cause. But now, the Pro Bowl safety is taking it one step further.
Whitner dropped what seemed like a joke on...
The 49ers made a move Tuesday, inking former New England Patriot Jermaine Cunningham to a one-year deal. In turn, they waived third-string QB B.J. Daniels and reserve fullback Owen Marecic.
A decisive and much-needed victory helped the San Francisco 49ers end their recent two-game slide and regain some confidence.
Now, they hope to prevent the Houston Texans from doing the same when the teams meet Sunday night at Candlestick Park.
After being outscored 56-10 in consecutive losses to Seattle and Indianapolis, San Francisco (2-2) looked dominant on both sides of the...
