The Atlanta Falcons were playing with house money. The monkey was off the Falcons back after barely beating the Seahawks last week. The Falcons were up 17 points and it looked like the home team had found a way to keep the 49ers highly ranked defense at bay. The Falcons defense was doing a great job containing Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers offense. Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones was scoring at ease and had two touchdowns and had 100 receiving yards in the first half alone. The 49ers did regroup and got on 7 points on the board when LaMichael James ran 15 yards for a touchdown. At halftime the score was 24-14 in favor of the Falcons. The second half was a different story. The 49ers defense did not allow the Falcons to score at all, while their offense scored 14 points to comeback and punch their ticket for Super Bowl XLVII. The Falcons started to fall apart when quarterback Matt Ryan threw an interception when wide receiver Roddy White slipped and fell which led to the turnover. The next offense drive for the Falcons produced another turnover. Matt Ryan saw some heavy pressure before the snap and he was looking to get rid of the ball quickly. Unfortunately for the Falcons he fumbled the ball and the 49ers produced another turnover. Colin Kaepernick was contained and did not run as well as he did against the Green Bay Packers. Colin only ran for 21 yards, but did throw for 233 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. 49ers running back Frank Gore ran for 90 yards and had two touchdowns and even did the Falcons “Dirty Bird” dance on his last touchdown run which was the final score of the game and gave the 49ers the lead for the first time which proved to be the game winning score. The Falcons did have a chance to score with time winding down, but failed to convert on two consecutive passes to Roddy White which turned the ball over on downs. The 49ers move onto the Super Bowl and will face the New England Patriots or Baltimore Ravens. The only things that Jim Harbaugh does not want to see is the game come down to a field goal with the issues that kicker David Akers is having this year.
