Who had it better among NFL head coaches in 2011 than Jim Harbaugh? Nobody, of course. After guiding the 49ers to a historic turnaround in his first season with the team, San Francisco’s rookie leader was a landslide winner for NFL Coach of the Year honors.
You knew it was coming but the day finally arrived. Jim Harbaugh, a member of the Colts Ring of Honor, won this year's Coach of the Year honors after leading his 49ers to the NFC title game in his first year:
Harbaugh received that honor Saturday night as part of the inaugural "NFL Honors" award show, held in Indianapolis on the eve of Super Bowl XLVI.
NFL owners approved a $200 million loan on Thursday to help the San Francisco 49ers build a new stadium in Santa Clara.
In December, the Santa Clara Stadium Authority unanimously approved an $850 million construction loan for the stadium, which will cost approximately $1.02 billion. The rest of the cost will be covered by a hotel tax and Santa Clara’s redevelopment funds.
Harbaugh became just the third 49ers coach to win the Associated Press honor, joining his late mentor Bill Walsh, who was the coach of the year in 1981, and Dick Nolan, who received the award in 1970.

Linebacker Aldon Smith of the 49ers finished second in voting for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, the Associated Press announced Saturday.
As expected, Denver linebacker Von Miller won the defensive rookie of the year award in what ended up being a two-man race with the 49ers' Aldon Smith. Miller took 39 of the 50 votes from Associated Press writers who cover the NFL. Smith took the other 11.
