(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) Frank Gore may stand alone among all San Francisco 49ers running backs but he's not done working. The three-time Pro Bowler is still one of the first players to arrive each day at team headquarters, beginning his training camp ritual with an early morning conditioning session long before the 49ers take to the practice field. His work ethic has helped make Gore the franchise's all-time leading career rusher to go along with several other team records. But the way Gore sees it, he has more work cut out for him this summer to hold off a new group of competitors looking to cut into his playing time. The 49ers added veteran Brandon Jacobs and second-round draft pick LaMichael James during the offseason to a backfield that also features Gore's slippery understudy Kendall Hunter.

Niners' Gore ready for competition, more winning

Frank Gore doesn't much believe in being overworked. While the 49ers went to great lengths to expand their depth chart behind Gore, the team's leading rusher with 1,211 yards last season, it's not in the prideful 29-year-old's job description or genetic fiber to hand the ball off. He's not only leading by example at practice, Gore is giving younger running...

Jim Harbaugh blasts media for criticizing rookie A.J. Jenkins

The 49ers are going to try to establish a better passing game this season, and first-round draft pick A.J. Jenkins is expected to be a significant part of the plan. However, there has been some indication that Jenkins...

49ers’ Michael Crabtree once again banged up

It looks like the 49ers aren’t too worried about Crabtree’s long-term health. “Like any injury, you never know how long it’s going to take these guys to come back,” said 49ers GM Trent...

Harbaugh defends A.J. Jenkins, bashes ‘clueless’ critics

This past April, the 49ers pulled off a bit of a head-scratcher, selecting receiver A.J. Jenkins with their first-round draft pick, No. 30 overall. It’s not to say Jenkins isn’t a good football player — his highly-productive college resume speaks for itself — but many expected the club to go in a different direction. Those who were against the pick were given some ammo during...
