After trading Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, the San Francisco 49ers are doing more this offseason in preparation for the upcoming draft. One direction the 49ers do not intend to go is the signing of the highly skilled New York Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis. Coming out of the 49ers camp was this quote on their pursuit of Revis, saying they are “.001 on a scale of 1-10.” There have been rumors in the past few weeks saying that the 49ers were shopping for Darrelle, but it seems they don’t have any interest in him. After looking at how of a total cost in salary and compensation would go to the Jets San Francisco is looking elsewhere. Plus the fact that Revis is coming off an ACL injury he suffered last year added another red flag to the 49ers. One other team that is said to be interested in Revis is the team the 49ers beat to get to the Super Bowl, the Atlanta Falcons. Along with the rumors came the Falcons front office denying that there is a heavy pursuit of Revis. Atlanta Falcons general manager, Thomas Dimitroff, said”Our biggest goal is to sign our own guys. That is why the money was freed up. Not to make other moves. We need to take care of our guys and that is our goal this offseason.” Getting back to the 49ers camp after a disappointing year, kicker David Akers was cut by the team. The 49ers general manager Trent Baalke gave an official statement on his release saying Akers is a “true professional who represented himself and this organization with class. We wish him, and his family, all the best.” David Akers is a four time All-Pro and racked up a total of 297 points within the past two years with the 49ers which is the most in the NFL during that time. This past season Akers was just 29 of 44 attempts which was his lowest percentage since 1999. There were certain times in a handful of games that his missed field goals cost the 49ers the game. Unfortunately this past season saw Akers becoming inconsistent which was one of the reasons he was let go.
