Francisco 49ers’ rookie running back Marcus Lattimore will start this season on
the non-football injury list, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Lattimore
was the 49ers’ fourth round draft pick this year. He had been projected as a
first round talent prior to dislocating his right knee and tearing three
ligaments playing for the University of South Carolina less than a year ago.
The injury was gruesome and could keep Lattimore from seeing the field for the
entire 2013 season.
arriving as the 49ers’ head coach, Jim Harbaugh has been stock-piling talent at
the running back position. In the past three years, he has drafted Kendall
Hunter, Lamichael James, and Lattimore all while retaining Frank Gore and
Anthony Dixon from the 49ers’ previous regime. It is certainly shaping up to be
an interesting group upon his return.
enough, Lattimore has stated that he hopes to be healthy by week ten. With his
non-football injury list designation, he will be unable to return until at
least week six due to league rules. However, even a week ten return at this
point would be nothing short of miraculous.
