According to Matt Barrows the 49ers are going to sign former Cardinals and Steelers defender Clark Haggans. Haggans was released on Friday and will sign with the team Sunday pending a physical. Currently the 49ers have only three outside linebackers, so adding Haggans will give them some more depth on the line and give Brooks, Haralson and Aldon Smith rest from time to time. Haggans started 16 games at left outside linebacker for the Cardinals last season, finishing with 30 tackles and three sacks. Who is released in favor of Haggans is anybody’s guess…

49ers may let Dashon Goldson and Jonathan Goodwin walk in free agency

Getty According to ProFootballWeekly.com,the San Francisco 49ers feel like both C.J. Spillman and Daniel Kilgore are future starters.  This means they may not end up working on a new contract for both safety Dashon Goldson and center Jonathan Goodwin. “Two big reasons why we hear the 49ers don’t appear to be in a great rush to re-sign FS Dashon Goldson and C Jonathan Goodwin...

NFL News: 49ers Jettison QB Josh Johnson in march to 53-man roster

The San Francisco 49ers reached the NFL imposed 53-man roster deadline on Friday. In doing so, the team released QB Josh Johnson. Johnson, originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had played under Niners head coach John Harbaugh in college, so this comes as a bit of a surprise. Johnson was exceptionally accurate in college, throwing 46 touchdowns and just one interception in...

Cardinals put Bridges on IR, sign McQuistan

The Cardinals placed tackle Jeremy Bridges on injured reserve Monday with torn ligaments in his thumb, another blow to the team's depth on the offensive line. Bridges had entered camp as the starter at right tackle before getting beaten out by rookie Bobby Massie, but he had starting experience at both tackle and guard, something the Cardinals now have little of with Brown and...

Kevin Kolb took not winning starting job in Arizona ‘like a pro’

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced on Friday that John Skelton had beaten out Kevin Kolb for the Cardinals’ starting quarterback job for Week 1. While both players never really distanced themselves from the other during the competition, Whisenhunt had to choose one of them. So while Skelton can now move forward and readying himself for the regular season opener...

QUICK SPIN: Skelton Wins Cardinals Starting QB Jobf

Sometimes you just have to admit that you messed up. That is what the Cardinals are doing. I must admit that I was wrong when in the offseason I said Kevin Kolb wasn't getting a fair shake from the media. I thought he had more in him, apparently not. John Skelton has been awarded the starting QB spot and he earned it more through his leadership and moxie than through great...

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt has named John Skelton as his starting quarterback to begin the 2012 season, opting to go with the third year signal caller from Fordham University instead of Kevin Kolb. Although Kolb is set to make as much money as Aaron Rodgers this season, Whisenhunt decided that Skelton gives his team the best chance to win. “We put a lot of time and effort in making...

Arizona sends CB Jefferson to Minnesota for picks

The Minnesota Vikings acquired cornerback A.J. Jefferson from the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday for a conditional draft pick in 2013. In bringing in the 24-year-old Jefferson, the Vikings continued their approach of adding youthful depth to a rebuilding roster. Cornerback was an area of concern for the coaching staff with Antoine Winfield entering his 14th season and missed the...

Aaron Wilson who covers the Baltimore Ravens for the Baltimore Sun is reporting that the 49ers have traded safety/special teams ace Colin Jones to the Panthers for a seventh round draft pick. Jones was a sixth round pick of the 49ers in the 2011. Jones did not see any playing time at the safety position, he was used primarily on special teams where he became one of the teams aces...

NFC West prediction 2012

NFC West No contest here. The 49ers went 13-3 last season and finished a fumbled punt short of the Super Bowl. The offense is better and the defense is just as good as it was. The rest of the division is in catch-up mode for the time being. San Francisco 49ers: All I needed to see to pick San Francisco to win this division was the return of all 11 starters from a defense that was...
