Despite offseason free agent moves by rival Seattle Seahawks, and aggressive moves by Tampa Bay the 49ers were chosen by the NFL as the offseason pre-draft top dog. Even though the 49ers have not been overly aggressive this offseason they have made key additions in needed areas such as Wide Receiver, acquiring Aquan Boldin via trade, signing Defensive tackle Glen Dorsey, and bolstering their special teams with the signings of Linebacker Dan Skuta, Safety Craig Dahl, and Kicker Phil Dawson. Definitely needs for a team that already boasts one of the more talented rosters in the NFL, these acquisitions along with the teams 14 draft picks will supplement that talent already in place, as well as add needed depth to the roster.   The vast amount of picks the 49ers have in their possession gives them the needed leverage heading into this offseason NFL draft. Trent Baalke  has the chess pieces needed to either trade for future picks, or move up and get an impact player the 49ers need, an...

49ers’ 2013 draft needs: Safety

The San Francisco 49ers losing Dashon Goldson to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and iffy play out of Donte Whitner in 2012 makes safety a top priority during this draft. Former St. Louis Rams safety Craig Dahl was signed, but he shouldn’t be considered anything but a depth option. So what safeties do the 49ers go after? Michael Crabtree thinks 49ers should have run ball at end of Super Bowl

That final 49ers offensive push in the Super Bowl will be hard to forget. They had the ball first and goal from seven yards out of the end zone, down five, under 3 minutes, and couldn’t find the endzone. The drive ended with three straight incompletions, and the Niners offense didn’t see the field again. It’s a tormenting sequence to accept, especially for Jim Harbaugh, who...

Comparing the NFC West: New kings at QB?

The emergence of Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson – two of the youngest quarterbacks in the division – over the second half of the 2012 season has changed the complexion of the quarterback position in the NFC West. The 49ers and Seahawks now have two of the hottest up-and-coming multi-threat QBs in the NFL, and that moves them to the head of the class in their division at the position.
