Found January 20, 2012 on Niner Noise:
The San Francisco 49ers are back in a very familiar position. This is the 42nd edition of the NFC championship game and this will be the 13th time the 49ers have played in the contest. It is the 8th to take place in San Francisco (1 at Kezar Stadium, 7 at Candlestick). This is also the 8th time the Niners have battled the New York Giants in the playoffs over the last 30 years. There have been some very memorable meetings over those 3 decades between the 2 squads. The 1990 NFC championship game saw the Niners looking to become the first “three peat” super bowl champions until the usually rock solid Roger Craig fumbled away the title as the Niners were simply running out the clock. The Giants ended up winning the game by kicking their 5th field goal. In a 2002 wild card game that also took place at Candlestick, the 49ers exacted a bit of revenge. Ahead 38-14 late in the 3rd quarter, Jeremy Shockey was pelting children in the crowd with ice and Michael Strahan was derisivel...

Now at UF, Young savors 49ers playoff run

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Gators defensive line coach Bryant Young wasnt there physically, but his imagination took him back to San Franciscos Candlestick Park for a short time on Saturday. Young was glancing at the 49ers-Saints playoff game on a big-screen TV while eating dinner with some recruits. It was San Franciscos first playoff game in nine years, a fact hard to imagine for anyone...

For Costanzo, different is a good thing

Because they're no longer living in football anonymity, we now know what seems to drive the San Francisco 49ers kickoff team into a pre-kick dancing frenzy is a rap song called "Tony Montana." Blake Costanzo, the guy often in the middle of that moving pile, still dances to his own beat. He fits the 49ers quite nicely. The NFL is down to its final four Championship...

49ers KR Ted Ginn, LB Patrick Willis Are Among 6 Players Questionable For Sunday

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ted Ginn, safety Dashon Goldson and linebacker Patrick Willis are listed as questionable for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the New York Giants. Ginn has not practiced all week after being knocked out in the second quarter of Saturday's divisional playoff game against the New Orleans Saints with a right knee injury. Goldson left in...

Alex Smith Thinks Eli Manning Has Faced Pressure, Had it Rough

Alex Smith has been thrown around plenty throughout his career. The 49ers have made three head coaching changes and gone through even more offensive systems since he was drafted in 2005. He’s been benched because of injuries or poor play, but still managed to become the starter again. Overcoming all that led Vernon Davis to call Smith the “strongest individual”...

Be Careful What You Wish For: New York Giants set to take on 49ers in San Francisco

In the days after New York’s stunning dismantling of the hitherto near perfect Green Bay Packers a number of 49ers players (Vernon Davis, among them) were candid in their assessment of the game, and admitted that they were cheering for the Giants to beat the Packers. The reasons, really, were practical. If the Packers won the [...]

Giants Must Make Stopping Gore Priority No. 1

I have heard for a while that San Francisco’s running back, Frank Gore is a beast with the football in his hands. So, I looked up his game-by-game stats to see where No. 21 has most of his success. And I was a bit shocked what I found: Will the real Frank Gore please stand up? At the beginning of the 2011 season 49er fans were clamoring for another big year from running back...
