Before the 2007 Draft, Reggie Nelson thought he was going to be a Bengal. He made a predraft visit here but he landed in Jacksonville instead. After Saturday’s trade though Nelson is here and gives the Bengals a veteran to back up Chris Crocker at free safety. “At this point, I’m just going to come in and do what I’m asked to do,” Nelson said. “Whatever they ask me to do, I’m going to do it, whether it’s special teams or helping out the defense. I’m here whenever my number is called just to show up and play football.” Said coach Marvin Lewis of the move: “I think it was a great move for us to acquire a veteran young player (Nelson), a guy who started a lot of games in the NFL, a guy who we had a great feeling for prior to him being drafted by the Jaguars, and now we have him here. He hits us at a position (safety) where we’ve had some injuries and so forth, and as we go forward into the season, I think it was a very good plus for us to get Reggie here.”
