The NFL won't be kicking off any time soon but if you're in need of witnessing some tackles and big-time football plays, you're in luck as the first ever season of the UFL, the result of the USFL-XFL merger, is kicking off this weekend.
In preparation for the start of spring football, we've identified nine players who formerly played with the Dallas Cowboys that will be taking the field in the historic season.
Most of them aren't big-name players and some barely spent time with the franchise, but I'll tease you a bit: There's a Cowboys' first-rounder on the list. Let's dive in.
Green signed with the Cowboys' practice squad for a short stint during the 2022 NFL season and later spent the offseason/preseason with the team in 2023. He's listed as the third-string tight end on the Renegades' depth chart.
As for Storey Jackson, the 2022 UDFA never got to play for the Cowboys but he made his NFL debut with the Cleveland Browns in his second year in the league.
Cowboys fans know the tale of Taco Charlton quite well. He's one of the biggest first-round misses for the franchise in recent memory as he only played three years for Dallas before being cut.
Since then, Charlton has spent time with seven other NFL franchises, hopping from one place to another before ultimately heading for the UFL for another shot at pro football. We're hoping for the best for Taco.
As for Taylor-Prioleau, he spent time with the practice squad in both 2022 and 2023 and played in one game for the Cowboys.
Considered a UDFA signing with tons of upside by the Cowboys in 2022, Lindstrom never fully earned a role with the team. He did spend some time on the active roster that year after being called up from the practice squad, though. In 2023, he was waived on the final days of roster cuts.
Carter could be perceived as one of the Cowboys' favorites out of their 2020 UDFA class after the front office guaranteed him $145,000. However, that same year he was poached by the Indianapolis Colts and the Cowboys didn't get him back until November, when they claimed him off waivers. He was waived in 2021.
Wise spent 2019 with the team's practice squad as a rookie.
San Antonio Brahmas
This will be Vasher's second year with San Antonio. The wide receiver was considered a darkhorse for the 53-man roster as a rookie in 2021 and later in 2022 but things never came to fruition, partly because of a meniscus injury that landed him on the non-football injury list as a rookie.
Faoliu did see the playing field for one regular season game with the Cowboys as an undrafted rookie, when he got two tackles in a win versus the Carolina Panthers.
Faoliu started ten games for the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons in 2023 and now will play in St. Louis.
