Found May 29, 2009 on The Viking Age:
The Packers‘ transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense was always going to be a difficult one, but the Green Bay coaching staff at least hoped their players would help smooth it some by being on-board for it.  Hope dashed: Aaron Kampman did nothing Thursday to quell speculation that he’s not overly thrilled about his role in the Green Bay Packers’ new defense. The former defensive end who is converting to outside linebacker in the new 3-4 defense continued his media boycott. The eight-year veteran has not granted any interviews since coach Mike McCarthy revamped his defense by hiring Dom Capers as defensive coordinator in January to replace the fired Bob Sanders. A team spokesman said Kampman originally planned to address reporters after Thursday’s organized team activity practice — the first session open to the media — but Kampman changed his mind and never appeared in the locker room. Kampman also declined to speak to reporters at the team’s Fan Fest in March. For the first seven years of his NFL career, Kampman played defensive end in a 4-3 scheme and accumulated 50½ sacks while starting 95 of the 103 games he appeared in. Along the way, the former fifth-round draft pick signed a four-year, $21 million contract extension and made a pair of Pro Bowls (2006 and 2007). Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel posted several tweets from minicamp yesterday, ominous tweets for Packer fans like: Ted Thompson is talking with fans and signing autographs. That might be more awkward than kampman in pass coverage and: Aaron Kampman refused to talk again about his switch to OLB. Packers even urged him to talk. There’s a problem there. Big time. But I’m sure this will all be worked out by the start of the season.  Wrong.  The Packers are going to have to do something with Aaron Kampman, and that something is trade him.  Sorry the whole 3-4 thing is already turning out to be a disaster.  Should be fun watching AD run through the Green Bay defense like they were bop bags.

Stop Smiling, You're Not Happy!

It’s May 29th and as of right now, the Packers season apparently hinges on the happiness of one Aaron Allan Kampman. His refusal to share his feelings with the hordes has taken on a mythic tone. He’s unhappy, nervous, uneasy, scared, terrified, overwhelmed, underwhelmed, rewhlemed, and just plain whelmed. I can’t find anything to read other than speculation as to why he has...

OTA Surprises

Green Bay Packers OTAs begin - and so do the surprises.           To start with, Justin Harrell made it onto the field. Donald Driver Wants a New Contract Again

It’s that time of year again. Green Bay Packers three-time Pro Bowl receiver Donald Driver wants a new contract. So, to apparently make some kind of statement, he’s not taking part in the team’s “voluntary” OTAs. Donald is scheduled to make $3.9 million this season and $4 million in 2010, pretty fair I think, especially [...]Post from: Every Morning Quarterback Donald Driver...

Harrell knows he must rise

The bar has definitely been lowered for Justin Harrell. Not that the Green Bay Packers necessarily think anything less of their 2007 first-round draft choice, but after two consecutive years of major back problems and minimal production, just keeping him on the field for a full season in 2009 appears to be priority No. 1.

Notebook: O-Line Still A Bit Unsettled

This offseason Head Coach Mike McCarthy has expressed a desire to settle in on five offensive linemen so they can develop continuity, but due to injuries along the front, that looks like a goal that will be hard to accomplish during OTAs. During Thursday's first open OTA workout at the Don Hutson Center, the first unit lined up with Tony Moll at left tackle, Daryn Colledge at left...

Defensive Linemen Getting Adjusted

Getting back on the football field this week for the Green Bay Packers' defensive linemen has been a little like going back to school. "It's a lot of learning," said Ryan Pickett of the new 3-4 defensive scheme. "A lot of learning. It's a lot more complicated than a 4-3 is. There's a lot of different packages, a lot of different stuff that I've never played because I always played...
