An Eagles Fan's Prediction on the NFC East

I think that the Eagles made some positive moves in the off-season but as much as I hate to say it, I can't see how we will finish ahead of the Cowboys this year. I think the Cowboys will finish either 13-3, or 12-4 (one loss to the birds, probably in the final week of the season). I think they will be followed by the Eagles (11-5 at best, more likely 10-6), and then by the Giants (9-7) and finally the Skins (8-8). It is still really early, and anything can happen, but assuming that DMac is not hurt, or injuries plague any of the teams.. this is how I think it will play out. How awesome would it be, if the division came down to the Eagles and Cowboys in the last week? I think I would crap my pants.

Thoughts?

yeah that would be great, but I see us beating out the cowboys this year, and IF everyone stays, healthy, i think a superbowl is not far-fetched. The D looks great, especially if we keep sheppard, I love the line and the young/athletic LB's are great. It's all on Donovans shoulder, and I think if we don't aquire Chad, we need to put desean in the receiver mix. LJ being healthy this year will really help in the red zone.

I don't think Dallas is gonna be a good as last year. (just my opinon) They have WR trouble too. Yeah they have a one but their 2, 3 and 4th or suspect. (especially against our secondary) with our D line and new set of LB's I think we can shut them down this year. Then once again the nfc east will belong to it's rightful owners, and all we be right with the world!!!!!

Witten and Barber don't worry much about your corners. That is why we were successful last season. When teams did a good job on them we just stayed underneath and we have drasticly improved our return game since last season.

so have we...

They have WR trouble? Same receivers as last year.

not immediate trouble, but T.O will retire soon ( hopefully) , and Glenn is coming off a knee injury and can't be reilied on, while still same age as T.O. You don't really have anyone behind them.

Crayton filled in fine last year on the other side. And, we're in the same boat as you are with our receivers. We might just sign another one on June 1 also. Who knows at this point. But, the offense set all kind of team records last year with the receivers we have now, and that was without Glenn. If he comes back and has any speed at all, then we'll be that much better.

sort of, you have more top end talent, but once thats gone what do you have besides crayton?
We don't have much top end talent, besides Curtis ( 1000 yard season, but the yards gotta go somewhere i guess), But we do have youth, depth and some talent.

We have two or three receivers that have been on that team for 3 years or more. Sam Hurd, Miles Austin and one more. Plus , there are a couple of free agents in camp. I'm sure we'll get it worked out.

that's right, i did see hurd produce when called upon last year. Can't say i've heard of the others, but i'll take your word for it.

I think you have made a brave move here. I happen to agree with your order. I see Dallas as an 11 or 12 win season, also followed by Philly with 10 (one over Dallas) then New York with 9 and Washington with 7. I think it would rock to see it come down to the last week, but I don't think it will. Just the fact that it could come down to tiebreakers for first through third place in this division is what makes the NFC east the best in football.

Dallas 11-5, New York 11-5, Philly 10-6, Washington 9-7. Philly and Dallas will split. No way they win both. And , as far as wide receiver problems, the offseason is not over yet and we did fairly well with Owes and Crayton and we may just have a game buster that will help spread the field in Felix Jones. If the Philly offense gets it together this year, they could have a good year, but that remains to be seen. I know the defense will be stout and they DO say that defense wins titles. I don't see the NYG falling too far either with that defensive line of theirs and the offense coming on. Should be a wild year.

You think New York will be good. It was a fluke. Eli is just not as good as he played.

I'm sure we both hope so, but that may not be the case. He might have found that confidence that he didn't have before. Will be interesting to see how he plays this season. And, it's their defense that really played well down the stretch.

I think the super bowl is between 2 divisions right now. NFC East and AFC South.

Cowgirls can't do jack in the playoffs. Eagles have been there plenty of times this decade. So I'd have to go with the Eagles because when healthy they are a better team with more experience, and because PacMan won't get reinstated, T.O will die of an over-dose (Not like it matters his teams are better in the playoffs without him he's 4-7), Roy Williams is good for at least 17 horse collars (suspension anyone) ,and Jessica Simpson being at every Dallas game won't help.

Even if Pacman doesn't play, I like our chances. WE didn't have him last year. We drafted three quality players in the first three rounds. If I were you, I would be more worried about your own team improving on an 8-8 recored instead of a team that was 13-3 and improved their offense and defense.

I'm not worried because we've done it before with the group we got, Dallas hasn't.

And, exactly what have you done with the group you have now? An aging group.

Dallas is old too. T.O is old, Glenn old, Roy Williams old, Romo's no spring chicken either.

Romo is 28. Duh!!!!

Still old.

5forlife your clueless...as usual another ignorant comment about jessica simpson...guess what, she has nothing to do with our outcomes...i hope roy horse collars mcnabb again and breaks his damn leg this time...and if u think jerry jones would make a trade for pacman knowing that he wouldn't get reinstated then u got something else coming...and u might as well change your name too cause mcnabb will be done after 08 as an eagle.

hmm... i'm feeling more along the lines of Eagles/Jaguars. same divisions, but i think this may easily play out

I got eagles and the browns at tampa. The browns D will have to play well but I think it will happen. And I got eagles 24 -21 with an akers kicking the game winning FG.

just cuz the Browns are fun to watch doesn't mean they are super bowl contenders. They are getting better, but can't compete against the Jaguars, Colts, Steelers, Patriots.

I don't know why they traded Leigh Bodden, their best corner.

jUST IF EAGLES GET A TRUE #1 WR TO SCARE ENEMY DEFENSE-FROM PRESS COVERAGE--FO PLAYING TO MANY GAMES-I like EAGLES AND JACKSONVILLE IN SUPER BOWL---JAGS DEFENSE ADDRESS WR WITH SIGNING OF PORTER,HE IS DOG ON THE FIELD,WILL KEEP OPP DEFENSES IN CHECK,WITH FRED TAYLOR AND DREW. COWBOYS AND JAGS---P.S IS THE EAGLES PLAYING TO WIN A SUPER BOWL OR LOSING NO MAJOR OFFENSIVE WEAPONS BESIDE WESTBROOK--WHEN THEY HAD T.O COULD OF LEASE OWN A LOMBARDI TROPHY EASY--

well let me throw my 2 sense up in here if yall dont mind.... we do have a superbowl bound defense but our o is a lil shaky to me . dont get me wrong i love d mac.... and westbrook in my eyes is the best playmaker in the nfl... but thats where it stops our wrs dont make big plays and when they do its against weak teams... lj is ok when he is on the field .... but back to the topic every year in my eyes its either the eagles or dallas who has the best chance to win the division (giants have there flook seasons every now and then) and the redskins suck period... and what is wrong wit yall you guys are counting out the pats and colts already lets face facts as long as there are a tom brady and peyton manning in the nfl their team has a chance... but the eagles will take the division again and agian and again thanks for your time people

If the wide receivers make plays and the O-Line can hold up, then the offense could do some damage in Philly. I'm not convinced that they improved a lot there just by getting Jackson. As usual, the defense will be tough.

I think that Jackson can have an impact in the receiving game with his speed alone. It all depends on how the Eagles use him. I'm hoping for a major impact in the return game. The Eagles haven't had a home run threat since Brian Mitchell. If he can shorten the field for the O, I'll be happy.

Good kick returner is definitely a bonus for any team. He should be able to contribute there right away. I'm curious to see how he will perform as a receiver in the NFL. It's not the Pac-10.

If speed alone were the key, Arizona wouldn't have two coveted receivers. Being a receiver in the NFL is about getting off the line in the right amount of time, its about making quick accurate reads and running solid routes. Jackson has one, it remains to be seen if he has the other two.

Jackson faced a lot of press coverage in College and did well to play off it. Remains to be seen if he can do it against the best of the best... or 3rd string Corner?

I think Brooks will be a major player, he will add a demension to Wesbrook. There are too many Ifs to be sure, but I can see either the Boys or Eagles at Tampa! NFC East is the best!

Offense could do some damage? We were top 10 in the league last year, as usual.

top 10 is a little decieveing considering u guys couldn't get it in the endzone

ya but we aren't talkin endzone, we are talkin offense, and in THAT category, we are top ten.

Eaglesfan21, That was why I took Indy. Until Jacksonville learns how to beat them when it matters I'm going with the better QB.

SORRY BOUT THAT I DIDNT EVEN SEE THAT YOU WENT WIT THE COLTS

I think Jacksonville can take on the Colts this year, with The added DE's plus added WR.

Jacksonville will be a contender, no doubt. If they can play IND in Jacksonville, it would help.

ya, not that anyone would show up to the game. It's usually only half full, hopefully last year, got a little excitement going on down there.

Jacksonville is not a big market. I'm surprised they have survived down there.

I actually think the Eagles will win the division this year, if not the conference. Last year was a fluke. Keep in mind that they have the best QB-RB tandem in the game. If they trade for Johnson, watch out. I have the Eagles and Cowboys easily making it, but the Giants will have to sweat it out. Admit it, last year was a fluke for the Giants too.

I love how people just like minimize the Giants Superbowl season as a fluke. There is nothing flukey about holding the highest scoring offense in NFL history to 14 points. There were alot of things we did differently in the playoffs. Bradshaw split carries with Jacobs and averaged 4.3 yds per carry against four of the best defenses in the NFL. Steve Smith was injured much of the year but showed a ton of pontenital in the playoffs as well. Our d-line will be also intact.

I've said a million times I think the NFC East will be tough this year, but it's not gonna be just an Eagles and Cowboys race to the division title. And honestly, no one really has any right to call us a fluke if your team has never won...anything, ever.

your right, i guess no one really takes Eli seriously. They should have to now, after supplying New York with a championship, but still no respect.

People in New England don't minimize your Super Bowl victory. You guys played awesome and the game probably wasn't as close it should have been im my opinion. I don't know how many games you won on the road in a row but but the Giants were clearly the better team that day. Congratulations and I hope we see you next year but I think Dallas will be there.

Giants beat the Cowboys, Green Bay, and N.E. All three teams were favored, so that was a pretty good run to end the season. As long as they have that defensive line intact and Eli improves, I'd expect another decent year. Too early to make Super Bowl predictions, although a bunch of people on here keep doing that.

You've got to look at the Giant's favorable 08 schedule as well. I see a lot of predictions about 9 wins. I think 9 is a minimum. Outside the NFC East games the Giants have 5 very winnable games against St Louis, Cinci, San Francisco, Baltimore, and Arizona. If we split with conference teams we should be able to take at least 2 of the 4 against Seattle, Pitt, Carolina, and Minn. That would be 11 wins and then anything can happen in the playoffs, as we all know.

Eli got married so we don't need to worry about him snatching up Jessica, but we just need to make sure Shockey gets moved ... so Eli doesn't crap his pants when he's playing.

Last season was not a fluke. It reminded me of the 2005 White Sox. You just had enough guys have career bests at the right time. I don't see the Giants as strong as you do. Too many questions in my mind about that defense. Especially the linebacking core's depth. That said, I didn't think they would be in it last season either so I am clearly not the guy to ask.

I agree with you there. Not too afraid of the g-men. A lot of things happened for them to win last year. Dallas not living up to their expectations. Packers collapse on some kicks. Patriots bite the bullet. I see things settling down after the super bowl win in New York. We all know that when the Giants face off with the Eagles in the playoffs, it's ...
"Get Down or Lay Down!"

Nice!!! I like that statement.

look, the eagles do have a legitimate shot here. like ive said in the past, they beefed up an already good defense, they took care of special teams getting some blockers n a return man, n their offense is already good as it is. the only thing that hasnt been addressed yet is that red zone offense, n i dont think we need a #1 receiver for that. if we can just get a tall physical receiver that can catch n get good seperation in the end zone then we should be in the running again for a sb with the other elites in the nfl.
