Asante/Stallworth/DE/OL 1st round vs. DeAngelo/Firzgerald/DE/ OL 1st round

O.k. Philly fans. The time is near so here is a few ideas. If you had the choice, which situation would you rather have?

Option 1:

Asante is a top notch cover corner, but he will obviously cost 80+ million. Stallworth would be a welcome addition since he knows the system (and we could probably get him for "cheap"). Then we could draft a DE/OL in the 1st and CB/OL/WR prospect in the 2nd.

Option 2:

Trade a 4th round pick for DeAngelo Hall (remember he can return kicks/punts) and then reward him with an extension NEXT year. Trade our 2nd and 5th rounder for Larry Fitzgerald and sign him to a multi year contract this year. Then draft a DE/OL in the 1st and a CB/OL/WR prospect in the 3rd.

Sure, this sounds like we are giving away a lot of draft picks. But remember that we get an additional 3-4 picks this year due to losing Stallworth and Garcia (who made the Pro Bowl) last year. So..get barkin!

i like both options but if i had to choose, id take the second, just because id really like to have fitz on this team, but is this even close to realistic? also, i dont know why u want a DE in the first round, first of all we just got abiamir in the second round last year, we have jucqua thomas who was excellent last year and we may keep darren howard, i say we either go after sweed, brandon flowers or a nasty nasty o-lineman, and hed better be nasty if we take an o-lineman in the first round because theres a shitload of them this year and we could easily get a good one in the second round

There are a lot of OL who will fall to the 2nd. But only a few top DE in this years draft (that's why I would prefer a DE in these senarios). Notice how I put WR/CB in the mix with our 2nd rounder (in the first Option). I believe that a 2nd and 5th is realistic/fair for Fitzgerald bc if he can't restructure his contract with the Cards (who are currently 2 million OVER the cap) how many more options do they have? Especially since Anquan will want a new contract after Larry gets "his".

you know what, you make great points but i really think the Fitz thing is dead, its just not gonna happen, i mean, forget about money for a second, the cardinals are just not a good team, i mean they cant even decide who their starting qb is (before leinart got hurt), so why would they get rid of Fitz, who could very possibly be the best player on their team, that would be like us getting rid of Westbrook

Keep in mind that a 1st round wide reciever isn't always what they expect them to be. Say..Freddy Mitchell who was our 1st in 2001. And remember David Terrell? He was the TOP WR prospect in the draft. Rod Gardner also went in the 1st round. Here are a few "little known names" that went in the rounds after:

Chad Johnson 2nd round
Chris Chambers 2nd round
Steve Smith 3rd
T. J "Who's your Mama" Houshmandzadeh in the 7th

Exactly my point. AZ has TWO number one WR's. Now take a look at other teams who have the same type of team. Detroit lions and the Cincinati Bengals. Both have great wr's but the rest of the team is in shambles. You can get away with having a star running back and win more games. This is why it makes sense to trade away multiple draft picks to a team with multiple needs.

you forgot about reggie wayne, who was picked right after mitchell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think theres another reciever we also couldve gotten that year thats amazing

I got the feeling after watching the interview with Tom Heckert that the Eagles feel that DE is the most pressing need. Given that the more pressure you put on the QB the more turn overs. Juqua is a good situational player (and so is Howard). The jury is still out on Abiamiri and Gocong might also be a situational pass rusher. But given the state of our team, I think DE would be our best option in the 1st round (even though I think Sweed would be a perfect addition at WR).

I was just referring to 1st round WR that were selected AFTER we picked Mitchell. The only 2 who were mostly productive were Koren Robinson and Santa Moss (selected in the 1st). So basically it was a 50/50 proposition in the 1st round when it came to WR in the 2001 draft. Unfortunately we were on the wrong side of that 50 :( Stupid First Down Freddy.

well i cant disagree with you because its not what you or i think, its what they think and after seeing what the giants did in the bowl, our FO, just like everyone else's FO wants to imitate and do the same thing, personally i think were ok at the DE spot, at least enough to go after another vital position in the first round, SO what do you think about the future of the safety position? do you think well eventually replace dawk in the draft, FA or move sheldon? sorry about my computer by the way, it keeps sending my posts in multiples

ya but reggie wayne DID come after freddy mitchell! i'm sorry man i might be confused by what ur saying

That's o.k. Yeah Wayne was selected in the first. Im just saying that there is a chance to score a GREAT reciever that isn't in the 1st round. Chad, TJ, Chambers etc. Sure, we are in in copy cat league and this is why I think the Eagles are really pushing for a DE in the 1st. Look how far our sack production dipped after Cole. It's rediculous. We need an every down player on the opposite end. As for safety? We will have to address that as well. I think that if we sign a quality CB in FA we will move Sheldon to SS. Dawkins will eventually have to be replaced. I think we would be best off finding a prospect in the later rounds this year b/c the safeties aren't that good this year. We could also trade for Gibril Wilson of the Giants. I think that was a rumor floating around somewhere (that he was available..not that we were pressing to get him).

ya but what about quinten mikell? are you suggesting that if we got asante or someone sick that he and sheldon would split time at SS? i dont know about u but i think mikell is a headie player and i love the guy

and your definitely right about talent in the second round, shit you could go way beyond that to find talent, you never know whats out there, your houshmanzadeg example was great, and hey, what about marques colston??

Mikell proved to me that he could be a starter. Is he amazing at any one thing? Not really. A sure tackler but I'm not sure about his coverage skills. Brown could offer both sure tackling and coverage. We would also have the flexability of using Brown in the nickle package at CB and placing Mikell in at SS. Lito has been prone to inury, but Joselio Hanson could make a good 3rd option in the nickel spot if/when Lito is on the shelf for an extended period of time (obviously moving Brown to CB2 and Mikell at SS full time).

Colston is an awesome reciever who would fit our offense. But I doubt they will trade him given that they don't have much else if he is gone. I think we might make a suprise move this year like we did for Takeo last year. Nobody expected that move. But what an improvement our linebackers were this year!

those are some nice plans.....but we all know....ANDY HAS to pull the trigger!!! I am not going to get my hopes up.......

I think they have something in the works. But obviously they say NOTHING and we have to sit and be patient (which obviously none of us are haha). I was just throwing some ideas out there. The last time I got the feeling that we were going to do something big we landed T.O and Kearse. I don't think they are shy about bringing in guys who can make a difference. The problem is that there are a lot of teams with a TON of money to throw around in FA. I think with our stockpile of draft picks we have a lot of room when it comes to trades this year.

oh no no no, i wasnt saying we shoud try to get colston-haha ya right the saints would never let him go, i was just saying that he was a last round pick and look at how good he is! although you know whats intersting? hes actually a FA next week because since he was a last round pick and noone expected much from him, he was only signed for 2 years, jesus christ if the eagles had him that would be scary, hes young, quick, 6'5'' and the hands of a young jerry rice, yes takeo was a huge surprise last year and i loved it, still do, just wish that when a ball ends up in his arms he could actually catch it, haha, man, i wonder if hell be an eagle again this year, what do you think? also, i agree the birds always have a huge surprise every year, like trotter! what a bummer, i loved him, but it was for the best, gaither is a force and hes only gonna get better, i think mikell is better than what you say but thats ur opinion and thats fine, i mean i dont think hes a pro bowler yet but the kids got game and hes tough and hes determined, hes always around the play and hey! what do you think about geting rid of considine???? HOW COME NO ONE TALKS ABOUT HIM ON THIS SITE!!!!??? I say we get rid of him too (not just because he got hurt) and use him as even more leverage to acquire what we really need!!!!

Oh YEAH Considine must go ...he is just tooo fragile....and I have seen him get run over BIGTIME he must go!!!

haha nice eagleman

I think the Saints probably already have a verbal agreement with Colston and will give him a new contract when the "NFL Year" starts on Feb 29th. He would be an awesome addiion to any team really. Im positive that TKO will be back this year. I think the "mystery" to our linebacks is Stewart Bradley. I think they will experiment with him at MLB (he looks to be the playmaker LB on our team believe it or not) and move Gaither to his natural position at OLB. Gocong was basically a rookie and learning the LB position (he holds the Division 1-AA season-record with 23.5 sacks and led the nation with 31 tackles behind the line of scrimmage in college). That's why I think he would be best used as a situational pass rusher. As for Considine...ehh he's not bad. A good back up and special teams player when healthy. Just because he isn't the "star" that everyone is looking for, I think he is still relatively cheap and knows the system. It would suprise me if they let him go or traded him.

Gocong was a DE in college btw.

id rather have bradley at will or sam and keep gaither at mike, as for gocong, hes cool cuz theyres all kinds of things that we could do with him, and yes ur right, bradley is a "mystery" but you gotta love his size

Bradley is the brick we need at MLB. When he did play he was a huge playmaker. He just needs to learn the playbook and more exp on the field. Im not saying that Gaither is a bad choice at MLB. I just think that OLB is his natural position and we would be better off as a whole.

you might be right my friend you might be right

option 2 fitzgerald is a stud HANDS DOWN

I personally would prefer Option 2 given that we would get a true #1 reciever and a good cornerback with return skills. But I would also be happy with Option 1 given our current situation.

i would definitely go with option number 2 hall would help in the return game and make our secondary deeper. also fitz is one of the best WR in the NFl and has good size this would make our offense deadly in the red zone. Asante is the best corner no doubt but the eagles could probably sign fitz and hall for the same amount that asante would want. an stallworth is a deep threat but not a big time red zone target.

gimme the second option

I LIKE THE OPTION WHERE YOU DON'T TRADE AWAY HALF OF YOUR TEAM!!! WHY DO PEOPLE THINK TEAMS GIVE AWAY PRO BOWLERS FOR FREE ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

THIS ISN'T THE NBA! NOONE IS TRADING RETIRED PLAYERS FOR PRO BOWLERS!!!

THEN LETS TRADE TONY HUNT AND CHRIS GOCONG FOR ADRIAN PETERSON AND THE VIKINGS #1 PICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LETS TRADE JEROME MCDOUGLE FOR JARED ALLEN AND LARRY JOHNSON.

LETS TRADE MATT MCCKOY FOR JOHNATHAN VILMA. These are all as realistic as this conversation. Lets trade 2 leprichauns and a unicorn for godzilla and Peyton Manning, Roger Goodell and Bigfoot.

Lets trade Elvis for Michael Vick.

Lets trade Reno Mahe for the 2008 AFC Pro Bowl Team.

Lets trade Narnia for The 1972 Miami Dolphins and Randy Moss.

Lets trade Wilt Chamberlin for the next 50 comsective #1 overall picks in the NFL draft.

Lets trade a macoroni necklace for Shawn Merriman and L.T.

Hahahaha. The Cards aren't going to trade Fitz for a 2nd and 5th round pick. They probably wouldn't even do it for a 1st AND 2nd round pick. At least come up with something realistic. If the Eagles could get Stallworth and Samuel or Hall I'll be happy in free agency. In the draft I would go OL or DE in the 1st round and WR or CB in the 2nd. Either Chris Williams, Jeff Otah, Calais Campbell or Derek Harvey in the 1st. In the 2nd I would go Brandon Flowers if the Eagles stay where they are at or trade up to grab Talib Kalib or Dominique Rodgers Cromartie if they're on the board. In the 3rd I would go Adarius Bowman if he falls that much or Tom Zbikowski. If they don't know a WR in the first 3 rounds, I would go with Michigan's Arrington in the 4th or take Steve Slaton in the 4th -- a good value pick who can be used like Reggie Bush in the backfield.

IT HAS JUST BEEN ANNOUNCED THE CARDINALS OFFERED THEYRE 1ST AND 2ND ROUND PICK, BOLDIN AND FITZGERALD FOR SWOOP AND BUGS BUNNY!!!

OH AND ANTRELL ROLLE AND THE RIGHTS TO BOOMER ESIASON!!!! AND EDGE AS ATHROW IN. AND THEN THEY TRADED FOR SUGGS AND TRADED HIM TO US TOO... AND HALL.

FOR BART SIMSPSON.
