In an interview with Comcast Sportsnets Derrick Gunn, Eagles President Joe Banner denied the numerous reports that they contacted the
Arizona Cardinals inquiring about WR
Larry Fitzgerald. Banner also told Gunn that the Eagles are not actively trying to trade
Lito Sheppard as previously reported. Banner stated that he was happy with the wide reciever core as is and did not feel any one position needed to be addressed more than any other. Banner and Reid both stated today tha they were excited about the secondary in place now.
At first I wanted to think this was all an attempt to drive up the market for
Lito Sheppard. Then the cold harsh reality set in that the Eagles will not be trading for a wide reciever and that the fact they have not scheduled a single WR visit shows the Eagles, for some reason, truly believe their recievers are good enough to compete. Its been fun but it's time to put the WR rumors to bed. Kevin Curtis is the #1, Reggie Brown is the #2,
Jason Avant,
Hank Baskett and
Greg Lewis will compete for the #3. There is still an off chance that the birds may land a free agent or draft a WR but be ready to see basically the same offense returning in 08.
