LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Unlike most of his teammates, Chicago Bears tight end Desmond Clark is old enough to truly remember Walter Payton. With the 10-year anniversary of Payton's death coming up Sunday, Clark shared a few fond memories of the Hall of Fame running back. "I was a big Walter Payton fan myself, coming up playing running back and quarterback," Clark said. "When I was playing running back, coaches would tell you to carry the ball like this [the conventional way], I wanted to carry the ball like Walter Payton and hold it with one hand. I just wanted to carry the ball with one hand and stiff arm people and do the high steps and all that stuff. You always see him diving over the pile for the touchdown, and that's never something I quite came to do." Somebody reminded Clark he still has time to accomplish those Payton-like feats. "Shoot, time is running out trying to be a good tight end," Clark laughed. "I can't waste any time try...

Harris a question mark

I'm not gonna lie, I have no idea what to expect from Tommie Harris on Sunday. I don't know whether a week off will cure what ails him because I'm not sure I know what ails him, and I don't know if anybody else knows, including Harris. He denies having a problem with his left knee, but that’s what the Bears have listed when he misses practice on most Wednesdays...

Smith upset with questions about personnel

LAKE FOREST, Ill -- If the Chicago Bears are planning to make any personnel moves, head coach Lovie Smith is intent on keeping that information private. "Okay. I'm not going to talk about anything personnel wise," Smith said. "That's pretty clear. So, if that's all you want to talk about, there's nothing else to talk about." Later in the press...

Wednesday's injury report

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Bears have released Wednesday's injury report. Tommie Harris (knee) had full participation. Adrian Peterson (knee), Israel Idonije (knee), Danieal Manning (foot) and Lance Briggs (shoulder) were limited. Adewale Ogunleye (ankle) and Matt Toeaina (calf) did not practice.

First-hand experience

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kevin Shaffer is a good person to ask about the Cleveland Browns' unsettled quarterback situation. A member of the Browns from 2006-08, Shaffer has first-hand knowledge of both Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn. "D.A. [Anderson] has a great arm," Shaffer said. "He's a guy that is going to sit in the pocket...

Put Bears brass on firing line

I've been wondering since 4:15 Sunday afternoon how precipitously the Bears have to tumble for the right changes to be made. Not changes like Josh Beekman over Frank Omiyale, or a few more carries for Garrett Wolfe instead of the tap-dancing Matt Forte.

No Need for Covert Operation at Halas

Will Browns coach Eric Mangini lose a wink of sleep wondering if the Chicago Bears start Frank Omiyale or Josh Beekman at left guard? Uh, no, he won't. So why is Lovie Smith being so secretive?

Harris steps it up with full practice

Josh Beekman's promotion at left guard and Hunter Hillenmeyer's return to middle linebacker were not the only changes made Wednesday at Halas Hall.

No Announcement, but Moves Made

Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said Wednesday that changes were on the horizon, but coach Lovie Smith simply refused to share exactly what those changes may be before Sunday.

The 6-0 Denver Chameleons

Each week, Denver Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels takes the previous game’s playbook, gives it a once-over, and virtually shreds it in half. Those plays no longer apply. “It restarts every week,” Mcdaniels said. “Whatever we’re doing against Baltimore, many of the things we haven’t done to this point.” It’s fitting that a team that...

Tommie Harris of Chicago Bears back practicing after benching

Tommie Harris returned to practice for the Chicago Bears after coach Lovie Smith benched the three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle last week.

Bears RB Adrian Peterson Returns To Practice And Will Play Sunday

Adrian Peterson (strained knee) has returned to practice, and will play this weekend, according to the Chicago Tribune. Peterson is one of the Bears'...

2009 NFL Season – Week 7 Review

After a fantastic 189-yard”revengeful” performance against the Chicago Bears, Cincy RB Cedric Benson is Week 7’s Game Ball winner I will start with a “Cheerio” this week as the NFL returned to London, England for the third year in a row. Unfortunately for the NFL’s English fans viewing our version of football, they were not treated [...]
