I turned to my brother at halftime of yesterday's ballgame and said, "If the Bears don't win this game by three scores, I quit on Lovie Smith."  They won by three scores.  I'm still sweet on ya, Lovie.  Here are my thoughts...Game balls to Dave Toub, Brad Maynard, Robbie Gould, Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox and the entirety of our special teams.  Did the Bears start any drives in their own territory in the second half?  Did the Lions start a drive outside their own twenty? There is no game this season I'll think the Bears are out of. The reason is Jay Cutler.  That's why we could have given up a decade's worth of first round draft picks.  As for the...

Did You Know? 10-5-09

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler became the first Bears quarterback since Jack Concannon in 1970 to have a 100-plus passer rating in three straight games. Oddly enough in 1967 the Bears traded Mike Ditka to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Concannon. Concannon spent five seasons with the Bears (1967-1971), where for over 5,000 yards, 31 touchdowns [...]

Jay Cutler Said What?

"[Brett Favre] definitely is No. 1," Cutler said. "If anything, he's earned the right to be No. 1 with as many years as he's played and as well as he's played." Cutler ranks himself and Rodgers behind Favre among division quarterbacks.h/t: ESPN Chicago...

Why Not? Jay Cutler’s Helicopter Touchdown Run

Jay Cutler “John Elway” Helicopter Touch Down Run, video

Jay Cutler “John Elway” Helicopter Touch Down Run, video. If Cutler still played for The Broncos I think their fans heads would have exploded with John Elway memories and Super Bowl nostalgia. Luckily for their health, Cutler was traded to the Bears. Hat tip BSO

Forte, yards, dash

After Jay Cutler helicoptered into the end zone for the Bears' first touchdown, looking like a pinwheel on a beanie in the process, you knew this was going to be a fun day.

Game Breakdown: Lions at Bears (10.04.09)

Bears offense vs. Lions defense As the Bears have continued to find clogged running lanes and small creases as thick as a sheet of paper, they’ve had to rely on Jay Cutler to bail them out in the fourth quarter of every game.  That could be a problem as the season wears on, but might not [...]

Week Five Power Rankings, Bears Edition

Here are the week five Bears power rankings from various sites around the web: ESPN: #14 (Last week: 14) Analysis,  “Against the Lions, Matt Forte finally regained his rhythm.” CBS: #12 (Last week: 16) Analysis, “Jay Cutler has had three consecutive games with a rating over 100. Still doubt him? The defense does have some problems that need to be worked [...]

Jay Cutler Post Game

Cutler shines as Bears run away from Lions

Jay Cutler threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, and the Chicago Bears pulled away in the second half to beat the Detroit Lions 48-24 on Sunday after they snapped their 19-game losing streak last week.

Bears take care of Lions

The Bears beat the Lions 48-24 in a victory that wasn't quite as dominating as the score would indicate.  Some quick notes, in outline fashion: Special Teams were the stars of the day: Johnny Knox returned a kick 102 yards for a TD (though he did almost pull a Desean Jackson at the end of the play).  Hester, Bennett, and Manning all had nice returns as well...

First half thoughts on the Bears-Lions

Jay Cutler needs to learn how to slide. His five yard TD, jumping over hits from William James and Julian Peterson and helicoperting down was a thing of beauty. But it wouldn't have been so beautiful if he had separated his shoulder. >>> Update: HESTER OUT FOR GAME

Brown blames elements for muffing kickoffs

Rookie Aaron Brown muffed two kickoffs in Sunday's 48-24 loss at Chicago, and that was part of the reason why he has lost the Lions' kickoff return job. He blamed the elements at Soldier Field in the Lions' first outdoor game this season, though he said he had no excuses. The sun was a problem on the first one. "I guess we've been playing in the dome for so...

Talking with the enemy: Midway Illustrated

With the Bears game quickly approaching, I exchanged questions with Brett of Bloguin's Chicago Bears blog, "Midway Illustrated." My replies to Brett's questions can be seen over at "Midway Illustrated." On to the good stuff... TWFE: For 3 years, we heard Rod Marinelli spew such drivel as "Pad level," "I believe in the invisible,"...
